03/21/26 | Softball
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — No. 18 Oregon's series at Purdue will be decided Sunday after the Boilermakers held on for a 7-4 win Saturday at Bittinger Stadium.
Purdue scored four runs in the first two innings before the Ducks rallied late, but fell short.
It was the first loss in Big Ten play for the Ducks (22-8, 4-1) whose winning streak ended at six games.
Sunday, Oregon will be looking to win its 10th Big Ten series in a row dating back to last season.
How It Happened: Purdue (23-7, 4-1) scored once in the first and three times in the second for a 4-0 lead.
Taryn Ho's double helped Oregon get a run back in the top of the fourth. Stefini Ma'ake drew a walk and pinch-hitter Regan Legg went to third when on Ho doubled just inside the third base bag. Legg then scored on Braiesey Rosa's fielder's choice.
The Ducks added another run in the fifth inning.
Kaylynn Jones doubled to left. Elon Butler followed with a fly to left center that eluded a leaping try by Purdue outfielder Khloe Banks. Butler ended up at second with her Big Ten-leading 13th double of the season. Jones had to hold up in case the ball was caught and could only advance to third.
Amari Harper then brought Jones home on a sacrifice fly that made it 6-2.
After Purdue added one more run in the bottom of the fifth, Oregon drew within three by scoring twice in the top of the sixth.
Ho led off with a walk before Rosa singled through the left side. Emma Cox singled to lead the bases. Katie Flannery hit a sharp one-hopper up the middle that was snared by the shortstop and turned into a tough luck double play that scored Ho.
Jones' third hit of the day, an RBI single to left, brought Rosa home to make it 7-4, but that was the end of the rally.
Notable: It was Oregon's first Big Ten road loss in more than a year (March 16, 2025, at Washington) … Harper's sacrifice fly in the third inning was the team's 19th of the season. That's tied for the fourth best season in program history and only six off the school record of 25 (2015, 2025) … Emma Cox threw out a runner in the sixth inning, her 10th of the season.
Up Next: The Purdue series wraps up with game three Sunday at noon PT (B1G+).
