EUGENE, Ore – The No. 11 Oregon volleyball team won in a sweep of the No. 15 Arizona Wildcats, 25-17, 25-12, 25-19, at Matthew Knight Arena, Wednesday.

How it Happened: It was a dominant performance by the Ducks (16-3, 6-3 Pac-12) who did not trail during either of the first two sets and quickly gained control of the third set to close out the match.

The first set consisted of long rallies and hard-earned points by both teams, as Oregon finished the set hitting .170 compared to Arizona's .021. The Oregon offense picked up after that. The Ducks finished the second set with 13 kills and no errors for a hitting mark of .448, and 13 kills with only three errors in the final set.

Liz Brenner and Martenne Bettendorf took turn leading the team offensively as Bettendorf tallied six kills in the first set while Brenner did the same in the second. Meanwhile Amanda Benson had a terrific night on the defensive end with 17 digs, 11 of which came in the first set.

What It Means: Jim Moore said after the match that Oregon may not have seen the Wildcat's best outing, but credited the team for coming out prepared and attacking.

“The kids did a very good job of staying on it,” Moore said. “We have to attack, and we did a good job of that coming out and we applied pressure right off the bat.”

The win puts Oregon at 6-3 in conference play and gives the Ducks sole possession of third place at the moment while Arizona drops to 5-4. The Ducks now have back-to-back wins against ranked opponents after defeating USC 3-1 last Friday.

Notes and Numbers: Liz Brenner recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs…Arizona hit .079 which marks the fifth time this season Oregon has held opponents to under .100…Maggie Scott led the team with 20 assists.

Next Up: Oregon will face another ranked opponent in No. 18 Arizona State, Friday at 4 p.m. That match will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
