Ducks Respond with Sweep of Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 11 Oregon volleyball team rebounded after a loss to top-ranked Stanford with a three-set sweep of California, Sunday, winning 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.
How It Happened: Oregon cruised to a win behind veteran hitters Liz Brenner and Martenne Bettendorf on the left and right, respectively. The two combined for 30 of Oregon's 56 kills, each with 15, and hit .575 in the match.
The Ducks controlled the first set, pulling away to a 25-19 victory, and while the second set was a less dominant performance with the team only hitting .244, Oregon was able to build a lead late, and held off a surge from the Bears to win 25-21.
The third set was an impressive one for the Green and Yellow. Oregon hit .607 to finish off the match, bringing the total to .371, the highest mark of the season and the eighth time above the .300 mark this season. After going outside for a majority of the match, the Ducks took advantage of opportunities in the middle with Serena Warner tallying five kills in the third set and Allie Rogers getting two.
What it Means: There appeared to be no lingering effects for Oregon after being handed its first loss of the season on Friday against Stanford. The Ducks followed their lowest offensive efficiency performance against the No. 1 team, with their highest on Sunday. The team did so without Kacey Nady who missed the match due to injury after putting up big numbers in Pac-12 play so far.
Even with the absence of Nady the Ducks were able to spread the ball to both sides of the floor with Brenner and Bettendorf, as well as Warner in the middle.
Notes and Numbers: The team hitting percentage of .371 topped the .365 against Central Arkansas earlier this year…Liz Brenner recorded her ninth double-double of the season…Brenner also passed Alaina Bergsma for fifth on the career kills list (1,435)…Maggie Scott led the team with 29 assists.
Bettendorf's Big Week: Martenne Bettendorf had a big weekend, improving upon the tremendous season for the junior. Bettendorf averaged 4.14 kills per set against the Bay Area schools while hitting .491.
Up Next: The Ducks will return home for matches against Washington State a 7 p.m. on Friday and an 11 a.m. match against Washington on Sunday.
