Toledo vs. Oregon - Quotes
11/22/14 | Men's Basketball
Dana Altman - Oregon Head Coach
On his teams' performance…
“I thought we played really hard. We gave up too many baskets in transition, just not sprinting back and getting our defense together. We took some bad shots which held our offensive production down, but I cannot fault our effort.”
“I'm really proud of the guys. It's a good win for our team.”
On the progression of this new team…
“They're all confident and I think they're figuring our where their shots are going to come from. We just get a little impatient. There are some teams that are obviously going to be a lot bigger than us, but I like our quickness. We make people guard more area.”
On beating an experienced Toledo team…
“Today was a big hurdle. Today was a big test for us, there's absolutely no doubt about that. We got stuck playing Toledo because none of the other teams in the tournament wanted to, so that was a big hurdle for us.”
On using the press for a majority of the game…
“We've got to. We've got to use our athleticism. We can guard the full court with our speed, so we've got to make people guard more area and then we've got to guard that area too and use our quickness to spread them out a little bit on the defensive end because obviously when they throw it inside on us, we're a little small.”
Joseph Young - Guard, Senior
On the game...
"It feels good, but we're not satisfied. We're ready to practice. We're focused, we're going to get a good recovery in, head to Portland and fly out to Brooklyn tomorrow. We'll take it from there, day by day, and be ready for practice."
On preparing for Toledo...
"He [Coach Altman] challenged us. The team was amped up for the game. Shoot-around didn't go too well today, but we executed and did very well on defense."
On Elgin Cook's dunk...
"That was nasty. That's all I've got to say about that one. He got the crowd going and that picked up our energy. His intensity, and how high he got off the ground... That's pretty good."
On the gameplan...
"We're good on offense, but we're better on defense. That's our plan. We just want to get better on the defensive end. That's what I've been harping on. Coach has been getting on me saying we need to be a better defensive team."
On the team coming together...
"It starts with my leadership. When they first came, nobody knew eachother. But I brought the guys together because we need to be a family this year. I felt like we didn't have that last year and the chemistry wasn't there. As long as we're there for one another and we have each other's back, we'll be a family."
