UO Logs Two Rounds in Hawaii
11/04/14 | Women's Golf
KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii ? The Ducks logged two rounds Monday at the Nanea Golf Club in the Pac-12 Preview and finished the day with a 607 to put them in 9th place. Caroline Inglis posted an impressive 1-under 72 followed by an even-par 73 to lead Oregon in day one. The Eugene native is tied for fourth place in the individual standings after her two-round total of 145.
How It Happened: UO began the day on the right foot with a first round 296. Cathleen Santoso and Cali Hipp were right on the heels of Inglis with both shooting 1-over 74's. Santoso recorded three birdies and four bogeys in her first round, and Hipp tied her lowest single-round score of the fall season with 13 pars and two birdies.
Kelsey Ulep rounded out Oregon's first round score with a 3-over 76. Ulep poured in five birdies, but a triple bogey on No. 12 kept her from finishing closer to her teammates. After their 4-over 296, the Ducks were just eight strokes back from second-place UCLA (288, 4-under). Washington led with a 10-under 282.
Round two saw Inglis lead the team again (1-over 73), but no other Duck shot better than a 79.
Hipp and Santoso both shot 6-over 79's. Ulep recorded a 7-over 80 to give the Ducks a 311 in round two. Oregon dropped two spots and they now sit in 9th place.
Marcella Pranovia was the other Duck competing in the No. 5 position. She carded back-to-back 13-over 86's.
Washington leads the field heading into the last day after a two-round total of 575 (9-under).
What It Means: Despite falling back in the pack after round two, the Ducks have reason for optimism considering their first round score. The Ducks recorded 14 birdies with four out of their five players notching at least two birdies.
Inglis Owned the Par-4's: Eight of her nine birdies in the first two rounds came on par-4's. Overall, she is 4-under for the tournament on par-4's which is fourth best for any individual competitor.
Overview: Oregon's 24 birdies is the sixth-highest total for any school in the first two rounds. The Ducks, however, are last in pars (96). If UO is able to maintain their ability to score while limiting their bogeys, they have a realistic chance of jumping a few teams in the final 18 tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow: Oregon and the rest of the field will tee off at 7:45 a.m. (HT) tomorrow morning. The Ducks will start on holes 11-15 and play with Colorado, Oregon State and Hawaii.
