KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii ? Caroline Inglis fired an even-par 73 to tie for fifth place with an overall score of 218 (1-under) Tuesday at the Pac-12 Preview at the Nanea Golf Club. The Ducks improved on their second round score, but a third round 305 did not advance Oregon in the team standings, and they finished in ninth place (912).
How It Happened: Inglis was rock-solid for the third-straight round. The junior shot a 218 and led UO for the second-consecutive tournament. Today she birdied three holes and bogeyed three on her way to two even-par nines (37-36).
Fifth place is the best that any Duck has finished this fall season, and Inglis was just one of six competitors to finish under-par.
Marcella Pranovia rebounded from a rocky first day and shot a 2-over 75 to give the Ducks a good score that they needed. The sophomore carded two birdies on the front nine to shoot an even-par 37.
Rounding out the counting scores for Oregon was Cali Hipp with a 4-over 77 and Santoso with a 7-over 80. Hipp excelled on the front nine and recorded a 1-over 37 on her way to a tie for 31st place with a 230 ? tied for her lowest three-round total of the year.
Cathleen Santoso struggled on the front side (43), but the sophomore fared well on the back with a 37. She finished tied for 41st with a 233 (74-79-80)
Kelsey Ulep finished with an 8-over 81 and took 51st (237, 76-80-81).
Alison Lee of UCLA won the individual title with a 10-under 209, and Washington won the team title with an 11-under 865.
Inglis Limited the Damage, and Seized Opportunities: Arguably the biggest reason Inglis was able to go low was her ability to avoid big numbers on a tough, links-style course. She did not record a double bogey in any of the three rounds, and the junior finished fifth in the field for birdies with 12.
Pranovia Bounced Back: Pranovia shaved off 11 strokes from her previous two scores (86-86) ? the biggest improvement for any competitor in the field. After recording two triples and three doubles during her first two rounds, Pranovia went double-bogey free on her card today and had just four bogeys.
Next Up: The Ducks will continue practicing over the winter, but their next tournament will not be until February 8-9 when they kick off their spring season against Oregon State in the Civil War Match Play Challenge.
