Ducks Treated to Win over Colorado
11/01/15 | Women's Volleyball
BOULDER, Colo. – The Oregon volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take down Colorado in five sets, Saturday at the Coors Events Center, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 15-11.
How It Happened: When Oregon needed a leader in the deciding set, the team looked to senior Martenne Bettendorf who put down six of the Ducks' 13 kills during the deciding frame. The surge came in the final 10 points as Oregon closed out the match on a 9-5 run, with the final three kills coming from Bettendorf.
In each of Colorado's set wins during the first and third sets, the two teams were inseparable as neither team led by more than three points. With its back against the wall, Oregon battled in the fourth set as Taylor Agost did some heavy lifting, recording five kills and two blocks in the frame to finish with 16 on the night.
Oregon and Colorado have produced some exciting matches this season with both meetings going to five sets. The win on Saturday was a slice of revenge for the Ducks who fell to the Buffaloes at Matthew Knight Arena earlier this month despite winning the first two sets.
What it Means: Although “must-win” scenarios can seem cliché, this was as close to a must-win situation for the Ducks as a team will face at this point in the season. Oregon now moves above the crucial .500 mark needed to be eligible for postseason play. The win is made even more impressive noting that Colorado was 9-3 in home matches heading into the Halloween matchup.
Notes and Numbers: Amanda Benson led the team with 25 digs…for the second straight match Oregon ran a 6-2 system with Maggie Scott and August Raskie splitting time at setter…Scott recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 35 assists and 16 digs.
What's Next: Oregon will return home where it will play six of its final eight matches. The Ducks will welcome California and Stanford to Matthew Knight Arena starting with a Thursday match against Stanford at 8 p.m.
