Alleyne's Double-Double Paces Ducks
11/29/15 | Women's Basketball
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Ducks (5-0) didn't allow a Fighting Hawks' field goal until there was one minute left in the first quarter, allowing themselves to jump out to a 15-2 lead. Lexi Petersen led the Oregon offensive attack early as she had eight points in the first 10 minutes to lead all scorers. She didn't do it alone though, as six different Ducks scored in the opening quarter.
“It's a really good feeling to have such a balanced team,” Alleyne said. “Our team just has so much potential and it's a great feeling to know you have players that are going to come in, step up, and do what we need to do to win.”
The second quarter featured Alleyne and Lexi Bando each contributing seven points while Kat Cooper came off the bench to knock down two threes, giving UO a 14-point lead going into halftime. Oregon outscored North Dakota 20-12 in the third quarter and Alleyne then collected her 10th board of the game with 2:00 remaining, making it her 74th career game with a double-double.
Even with a 22-point lead, the Ducks came into the fourth quarter aggressive. Back-to-back “and-1” plays from Alleyne and Cooper put Oregon up 28 and Mar'Shay Moore added another old-fashioned three-point play of her own at the 4:50. In the final two minutes, Jordan Loera knocked down four straight free throws, keeping Oregon out in front by 26 to end the game.
“We were consistent all the way through at both ends of the floor,” head coach Kelly Graves said. “I liked how we were aggressive towards the end of the game and got to the line a lot. Overall, I thought we had a really good effort and it was a good game.”
BALANCED ATTACK: Four Ducks hit double-figures in scoring today. Alleyne's 17 points led all scorers while Bando and Petersen contributed 14 and 13 respectively. Cooper continued her strong play off the bench as she scored 12. Overall, 10 different Oregon players scored and the Ducks shot 27-of-53 from the field for 50.9 percent.
NOTABLE: Alleyne is closing in on the Pac-12 double-double record of 85 owned by Stanford's Chiney Ogwumike… Cooper went 2-for-2 from three-point range, improving her season total to 11-of-17…Oregon knocked down 13 three-pointers in the game, matching its season-high set in the opener at North Carolina.
UP NEXT: Oregon will be on a short rest as it hosts San Jose State at 8 p.m. Monday night at Matthew Knight Arena. The contest against the Spartans marks the first time this season the Ducks will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
