12/16/15 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. – Jillian Alleyne collected her 25th-straight double-double as the Oregon women's basketball team won, 95-81, over UC Riverside Tuesday night at Matthew Knight Arena. The Ducks improved to 9-0 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Highlanders (5-5) cut the UO lead to 11 with just under two minutes to go, but a free throw from Maite Cazorla and a timely lay-up by Lexi Petersen put the Ducks out in front by 14 to seal the win.
The game started off as a back-and-forth affair before Oregon put together a 9-0 run late in the first quarter to open up an 11-point lead. Alleyne sunk a free throw at the 2:47 mark to start the run and she added in an old-fashion three-point play shortly afterwards, which Lexi Bando followed up on with a triple.
In the second quarter, Bando added two more threes and the Oregon bench stepped up as well to balance out the scoring. Oti Gildon converted two lay-ups while Kat Cooper drained a three and Liz Brenner contributed a lay-up. The Ducks held a 14-point advantage going into halftime, which proved to be crucial as the two teams played evenly throughout the second half.
WHO STOOD OUT: For the game, Alleyne led all scorers with 25 points to go along with her 17 boards. Cazorla and Bando added 15 and 17 points respectively. Jacinta Vandenberg collected all eight of her rebounds in the second half and scored five of her 11 points down the stretch in the fourth quarter. Lexi Petersen rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10. Cazorla also dished out seven assists and didn't have a turnover in 34 minutes of play.
