Ducks Move to 10-0 with Blowout

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Ducks used a 14-1 run to start the game as the Vikings (1-9) were held without a field goal until mid-way through the first quarter. That run was just the beginning as Jillian Alleyne tallied 15 points in the opening quarter and Lexi Petersen chipped in nine. All but 10 of UO's first quarter points came in the paint where the Ducks were nothing short of dominant, outscoring the Vikings 58-18 in the paint for the game.
The second quarter featured a plethora of Ducks getting involved. Maite Cazorla, who dished out six assists in the first quarter, looked to score more in the second, chipping in five, while Petersen added five more. Lauren Yearwood came off the bench to hit two lay-ups and sink a free throw, becoming one of seven Oregon players to score in the second quarter, giving the Ducks the 58-30 advantage at half-time.
UO didn't let up at all in the second half, outscoring PSU 38-12 in the third quarter in thanks to three triples by Kat Cooper, who was 5-of-7 from behind the arc for the game.
"I'm a confident shooter," Cooper said. "As a shooter you have to have a short memory, so I know that I'm good and I'll just keep shooting even if I miss."
Mar'Shay Moore then used the fourth quarter to score 10 of her 13 points as Oregon led by at least 50-points throughout the final period of play.
WHO STOOD OUT: Maite Cazorla had an all-around balanced performance tonight and came close to recording the first triple-double in team history. In addition to her 16 points, she dished out 12 assists and had seven steals in just 25 minutes of play.
"Maite was terrific tonight," head coach Kelly Graves said. "Her vision is amazing and once again she didn't have any turnovers."
"She's on a level of her own," Jillian Alleyne added. "She is hands down the best point guard I've played with and she sees the floor like no one else."
Alleyne recorded her 26th-straight double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. It marked No. 79 of her career. Lexi Petersen led the team in scoring with 22 points – 14 of which came in the first half – and also had four assists and four steals.
NOTABLE: Oregon's 122 points came close to matching the school record of 131 set in the season-opener against Bakersfield on Nov. 9, 2013 … Oregon's 11 blocked shots are its most since posting 12 blocks at Illinois on Dec. 12, 2012 … The Ducks' 22 steals are the most since recording 24 steals against Southern on Dec. 18, 2013.
UP NEXT: The Ducks will resume action when they host Seattle at 6 p.m. on Dec. 28 at Matthew Knight Arena.
