No. 34 Oklahoma Wins 6-1 over UO

EUGENE, Ore. – No. 34 Oklahoma took down Oregon 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene, Ore. The loss drops Oregon to 1-2 on the season and improves Oklahoma to 5-1.
How It Happened: The Sooners immediately took control of the match beginning with the doubles point. Kadie Hueffner and Lina Åkesson were tripped up on court three by OU's Zita Engbroks and Christa Brigante 6-1, and Oregon's No. 1 doubles team of Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita couldn't get past Morgan Chumney and Emma Devine, losing 6-2.
Nicole Long and Marlou Kluiving were up 5-2 on court two before play was stopped and Oklahoma took the 1-0 lead.
The visitors made it a 2-0 advantage when Long fell to Chumney 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. OU tacked on another point when Hueffner couldn't parlay a successful first-set start into a victory, and she lost to Christa Brigante 6-4, 6-2 on court six.
The Sooners clinched the match when Simran Sethi took down Tobita 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 position, making the score 4-0.
Rose was the next to finish on court one, and she lost a close match 6-3, 7-6 (2) to Lily Miyazaki, giving OU a 5-0 lead. They made it 6-0 shortly after when Åkesson fell 7-6 (5) 6-4 in her match on court five to Engbroks.
Kluiving was the one bright spot for the Ducks. She won 7-6 (3), 6-4 over Abbi Melrose at No. 4 singles, putting her at 11-2 on the season and 3-0 in duals. Both marks lead the team.
Up Next: Oregon will return to the Student Tennis Center next weekend for a match on Friday, Feb. 13 against Montana at noon, and then again on Sunday, Feb. 15 against Iowa at noon.
