Ducks Announce Depth Chart for Opener
08/26/16 | Football, @GoDucksMoseley
EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon football coach Mark Helfrich finalized the Ducks' depth chart as the team will now switch from Fall Camp to game week preparation ahead of the season opener Sept. 3 vs. UC Davis at Autzen Stadium (2 p.m., Pac-12 Network).
Graduate transfer Dakota Prukop held off a challenge from a trio of young quarterbacks to secure the top spot at that position. The former Montana State signal-caller and FCS first-team All-American demonstrated the consistency and poise expected from a player of his experience level and caliber throughout the three-week preseason training camp. Prukop will be backed up by Eugene native Justin Herbert, one of three true freshmen to appear on the initial depth chart.
Ten players on both sides of the ball remain from UO's 2015 opening week depth chart, headlined by seniors Dwayne Stanford (WR) and Cameron Hunt (RG), and junior Royce Freeman (RB) on offense, and juniors Henry Mondeaux (DE), Tyree Robinson (S) and Arrion Springs (CB) on defense. All of the specialists from last year's team are back, with the exception of return men Bralon Addison and Byron Marshall.
In addition to the three true freshmen listed, seven redshirt freshmen appear on the "two-deep" along with three newcomers via transfer. More than half of those redshirt freshman (4) appear along the offensive line, including projected starters Jake Hanson (C), Shane Lemieux (LG) and Calvin Throckmorton (RT).
The position group with the most turnover from a year ago is linebacker, with Johnny Ragin III (WILL), A.J. Hotchkins (MIKE) and true frosh Troy Dye (SAM) all penciled in as first-time starters in UO's revamped 4-3 defensive scheme.
Returning to the depth chart after missing all of 2015 while rehabilitating from injury is 2014 All-Pac-12 first-team tight end Pharaoh Brown.
The Ducks concluded camp with yesterday's scrimmage and did some light conditioning drills on Friday. They will begin UC Davis prep in earnest on Saturday prior to the program's annual Fan Day festivities.
