
Down Big at Half, Ducks Rally Back for Win at USC

LOS ANGELES – Down 16 points at halftime, the Oregon women's basketball team rallied back to knock off USC on the road, 59-53, on Friday night at the Galen Center.
The Ducks (12-5, 2-3 Pac-12) held the Trojans (10-6, 1-4) to just 17 total points in the second half while scoring 39 points after the break.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Ducks struggled early, making just four baskets with nine turnovers in the first quarter. Oregon trailed USC, 14-7, at the end of the first.
The struggles continued in the second as the Ducks were outscored 22-13 in the quarter and trailed the Trojans, 36-20, at halftime. Sabrina Ionescu led Oregon with nine points at the break. Ruthy Hebard, after picking up two early fouls, played just four minutes in the first half.
After scoring seven straight points for the Ducks to start the third, Hebard picked up her third and fourth fouls and had to sit. Oregon didn't let Hebard going out bother them, however, as the Ducks continued a 15-2 run to trim the USC lead to just three points, 38-35, with 4:12 left in the third. Oregon trimmed the USC lead to just two, 40-38, on a Lexi Bando three-pointer with 1:15 left in the third. Oregon outscored the Trojans, 18-7, in the third and trailed, 43-38, going to the fourth.
Oregon cut it to one, 45-44, with 6:33 remaining on back-to-back baskets by Mallory McGwire and Oti Gildon. The Ducks tied it up, 53-53, on a three-point play by Hebard with 1:43 left and Oregon outscored the Trojans, 6-0, in the final minute to put the game away.
STAT SHEET: Sabrina Ionescu led the team with 17 points and seven rebounds while Lexi Bando tallied 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting…Bando was held without a field goal in two games against USC last year…Despite being in foul trouble the whole game, Ruthy Hebard finished with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
