Oregon Game Notes: Colorado
01/27/17 | Men's Basketball
One streak will continue and one will end when Oregon visits Colorado on Saturday (6:30 p.m., Pac-12 Networks). The question is which will it be? The Ducks carry a school-record 17-game winning streak into the contest, but have never won (0-6) at the Coors Events Center.
THE STARTING FIVE
1 - Oregon has reached a number of historic milestones in program history:
* Seventh straight winning season for the first time in 77 years.
* 20 Straight winning seasons as a head coach for Dana Altman.
* Program record 173 wins over seven seasons.
* 17 straight wins broke a 104 year-old UO record.
2 - Oregon is 8-0 in league play for the first time since the 1925-26 squad went 10-0 to win the Pacific Coast Conference Northern Division.
3 - Oregon is 19-2 overall for first time since the 2006-07 season. A win on Saturday would give the program its best record since the 1926-27 team was 21-1 after its first 22 games.
4 - It's a TEAM game. Oregon is the only team in the Pac-12 that does NOT have an individual among the conference's top 20 in scoring.
5 - Oregon has held 19-of-21 opponents under 70 points this season. The only two teams to eclipse 70 points are Army (77) in the season opener and UCLA (87) on Dec. 28. Only three other teams have held all but two opponents below 70 this season: Baylor, Virginia and Saint Mary's.
+1 - The Ducks lead the nation at 7.6 blocks per game, and also lead the nation in total blocks with 159. Individually, Chris Boucher is seventh nationally in blocks per game (3.0), with Jordan Bell 36th (2.1 bpg).
SEEKING BOULDER BREAKTHROUGH
Oregon is still seeking its fist victory at the Coors Events Center; it is the one Pac-12 arena where the Ducks have yet to claim victory. Oregon is 0-6 all-time in Boulder, including an 0-4 record since the Buffaloes joined the Pac-12.
SEASON TRENDS
Now that the calendar has flipped to 2017, here's look at some trends from the season. The Ducks are:
* 17-0 when blocking more shots than opponents
* 16-0 when leading at the half
* 15-0 when scoring 70 or more points
* 15-0 when having more assists than opponents
* 15-0 when committing fewer fouls than opponents
* 14-1 when outrebounding opponents
WINNING STREAK NOTES
Oregon's current 17-game winning streak is the longest in program history. The Ducks broke a 104 year-old record with their 16th win in a for Jan. 21 versus Stanford. The previous mark of 15 wins in a row covered the 1911-12 and 1912-13 seasons. That streak was bookended by losses to Washington. Those early teams were coached by legendary track and field mentor Bill Hayward. Oregon's all-time longest winning streaks:
17 games
11-22-2016 to 1-26-2017
15 games
2-14-1912 to 1-31-1913
14 games
1-31-1925 to 2-19-1926
12-27-1926 to 1-24-1927
12-21-1935 to 1-17-1936
12-3-1937 to 1-14-1938
2-26-1946 to 1-3-1947
DUCKS' HOME WINNING STREAK NOW SECOND NATIONALLY
With three long home winning streaks ending last month, Oregon now owns the second-longest active home winning streak in the nation behind only Kansas. In December, UCLA halted Kentucky's 42-game streak, and Stephen F. Austin's 31-game streak came to an end as did South Dakota State's 34-game streak. Through Jan. 30:
Streak Team
1. 50 games Kansas
2. 38 games Oregon
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
The Ducks are 106-13 (.891) all-time at Matthew Knight Arena since the building opened in 2011.
OREGON NETS SEVENTH STRAIGHT WINNING SEASON
The Ducks have now secured their seventh straight winning season. It is just the third time in school history that Oregon has strung together seven or more consecutive winning seasons, and the first such occasion in 77 years. The Ducks last had seven winning seasons in a row from 1934-40 for coaches William Reinhart and Howard Hobson. The program record is 10 consecutive seasons from 1923-32 under George Bohler and Reinhardt.
SEVEN-YEAR ITCH
Oregon has now set the school record for the most wins over a seven-year period with 173. The previous record of 170 was established just last season (2009-10 to 2015-16).
FOR THE DEFENSE
Under Dana Altman, Oregon is 118-14 when holding opponents under 70 points, including an 86-6 mark the last five seasons.
DUCKS REACH 100 WINS
Thursday night's win over Utah was the program's 100th over the last four seasons. It is the third straight year that the Ducks have recorded 100 wins over four seasons.
