
Ducks Head To Boise State For Fall Classic

The Oregon men's tennis team heads to Idaho this weekend to take part in the Boise State Dar Walters Fall Classic beginning Friday.
EUGENE, Ore. – With junior Thomas Laurent and senior Akihiro Tanaka still at the ITA All-Americans, the rest of the Oregon men's tennis team will head to Idaho this weekend for their first tournament of the fall taking part in the Boise State Dar Walters Fall Classic beginning this Friday.

This will be the first appearance in the Boise State Fall Classic for all five Ducks making the trip and the first time since 2012 Oregon has participated in the Broncos' fall tournament.
The tournament will feature players from 12 different schools across the Pacific Northwest as well as Texas-based Abilene Christian.
In singles play, the Ducks will be led by seniors Simon Stevens and Cormac Clissold who enter the tournament as the No. 2 and No. 3 seed respectively.
The two seniors combined for a 35-24 singles record last season as Clissold went 5-4 during fall tournament play last year while Stevens went 6-4. They both will open singles play at 10 a.m. PT Friday morning with Stevens taking on Seattle's Trenton Nield and Clissold facing off against Whitman College's Ben Kirsh.
After earning an 11-10 overall singles record during his first season at Oregon, Sophomore Ty Gentry enters tournament play seeded in the top-10 as well. The seventh-seeded Gentry begins the fall classic against Idaho State's Edin William.
Juniors Armando Soemarno and Ethan Young-Smith round out the Ducks lineup in the singles bracket this weekend.
For Soemarno this will be the first singles action for the Indonesian international since January of his freshman season when he defeated Seattle's Mike Schoettler 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9). Soemarno has only played in five singles matches during his career at UO, all during his freshman year, boasting a 2-3 overall record.
Young-Smith will put his No. 15 seed up against Gabe Souza of Portland State in his opening round match. The Bend, Ore. local had one of the Ducks best records during last year's fall season going 7-4 in tournament play and finishing the year 12-7 overall.
In the doubles bracket, the top-seeded duo of Stevens and Gentry kick off tournament play at 7:30 a.m. against Whitman College's Bear Lee and Andreas Mueller-Immergluck. Stevens and Gentry paired up only a handful of times last season finishing the year with a 3-3 record.
Joining forces for the first time ever in their careers, Clissold and Soemarno earned the No. 6 seed and will square off against Ricardo Almeida and Jeremy Mueller of Eastern Washington in the opening round.
