With an impressive 6-4, 6-4 win over Yuya Ito of Texas, junior Thomas Laurent advances to the second round of the ITA All-Americans main draw Friday
TULSA, Okla. - Oregon men's tennis junior Thomas Laurent opened play in the singles main draw at the ITA All-American championships with an impressive win over 26th-ranked Yuya Ito of Texas Thursday morning.
How it Happened: Laurent was in control throughout the early morning match powering to a straight set victory 6-4, 6-4 over the Japanese international from Texas.
"It was a good start to the fall for Tom to kick off with a win vs a very solid ranked player right out of the gate," said head coach Nils Schyllander. "Tom was solid in his own service games all match long. Now it's time to hydrate up and get ready for another battle tomorrow."
With the win, Laurent is now 5-1 all-time at the All-Americans after advancing out of the qualifying bracket all the way to the round of 32 in last year's tournament.
Looking Ahead: Laurent will now take the rest of the day off as he prepares to face Georgia Tech's Carlos Divar in the second round of play Friday.
