STARKVILLE, Miss. – No. 9 Oregon struggled to contain No. 5 Mississippi State and the Ducks fell to the Bulldogs, 90-79, on Wednesday night at Humphrey Coliseum.
Both of Oregon's (8-2) losses this season have to come to No. 5 ranked teams on the road – Louisville and MSU.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Mississippi State opened up an eight-point lead in the first quarter but the Ducks climbed back in, as a Ruthy Hebard putback at the buzzer made it a 23-19 deficit going to the second quarter.
With 7:03 to go in the second, Sabrina Ionescu hit a three-pointer, stole the inbounds pass and scored a layup for five quick points, cutting the MSU lead to 25-24. The Ducks again made it a one-point game, 32-21, on a Satou Sabally putback with 3:49 to go before halftime. The Bulldogs responded, however, with a 13-2 run to take a 45-33 lead into the break.

The scoring went back-and-forth to start the third quarter with the Ducks not able to chip much into the MSU lead. Oregon cut the MSU lead to eight, 52-44, on a Mallory McGwire jumper but the Bulldogs, keyed by eight points from Victoria Vivians, went on a 13-0 run to make it a 20-point lead, 64-44, with 2:56 left in the third. The Bulldogs led, 70-55, going to the fourth quarter.
Oregon rallied to make it a 10-point game, 72-62, on a Hebard layup with 8:10 left in the fourth. The Ducks kept battling to the end before falling, 90-79.
BOX SCORE: Ruthy Hebard was strong for the Ducks in the loss, with 25 points on 10-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds.
