No. 9 Ducks Defeat Southern Utah

DUCKS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT, DEFEAT SOUTHERN UTAH, 98-38
EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 9 Oregon women's basketball team won its fifth-straight game, taking down Southern Utah, 98-38, on Saturday at Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon (8-1) is now a perfect 7-0 at home this year.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Oregon jumped out to an early lead after an incredible first quarter by Sabrina Ionescu. The sophomore went 3-for-3 from three and 5-for-5 overall for 16 points in the first quarter. The Ducks shot 60 percent as a team as they led the Thunderbird, 26-12, going to the second.
It was more of the same in the second quarter. The Ducks used a 10-0 run to take a 38-14 lead with 6:10 left before halftime. Oregon outscored Southern Utah, 31-4, in the second and owned a commanding 57-16 lead at the break. Ionescu did not score in the second quarter, but dished out six assists and had 16 points and seven helpers at halftime.
Lexi Bando got hot in the third quarter, hitting a trio of three-pointers, to give her 17 points at the end of the period. Ionescu (16), Ruthy Hebard (13) and Mallory McGwire were also in double-figures as the Ducks led Southern Utah, 83-30, going to the fourth.
With the Ducks only using their bench in the fourth quarter, the Ducks went on to win, 98-38.
MARGIN OF VICTORY: Oregon's 60-point win over Southern Utah is the second-largest for the Ducks under head coach Kelly Graves. The biggest was a 63-point win (122-59) against Portland State on Dec. 17, 2015. The program record for largest win was an 81-point win (121-40) vs. Hawai'i on Jan. 16, 1979. Oregon entered Saturday's game vs. SUU with the eighth-largest scoring margin in the NCAA at 26.4 points.
ASSSIT-TO-TURNOVER: Sabrina Ionescu tallied 14 assists with no turnovers last Saturday against Weber State. She posted 12 assists with no turnovers on Saturday vs. Southern Utah. Ionescu has posted 10+ points four times this season. She has 75 assists overall with just 21 turnovers.
UP NEXT: No. 9 Oregon visits No. 6 Mississippi State on Wednesday in a SEC Network televised game.
