Game Notes: Ducks Shoot for Perfect Senior Day
02/17/17 | Men's Basketball
Oregon hosts Colorado Saturday at noon (Fox) on Senior Day. The Ducks will honor four seniors - Charlie Noebel, Chris Boucher, Dylan Ennis and student manager Patrick Benson - in postgame ceremonies.
THE STARTING FIVE
1 - Oregon has reached a number of historic milestones in program history:
* Seventh straight 20-win season.
* Seventh straight winning season for the first time in 77 years.
* 20 straight winning seasons as a head coach for Dana Altman.
* Program record 177 wins over seven seasons.
* Program record 156 wins over six seasons.
2 - Attendance at MKA. With a sellout expected for the Colorado game, Oregon will have its best attendance figures in 39 seasons. The Ducks will average 9,894 fans per game (17 home games), which is the program's highest since averaging 9,984 in 1977-78.
3 - The last four seasons, Oregon is undefeated after Valentine's Day (18-0) in Pac-12 Conference games (credit to Pac-12 Network's JB Long for that note).
4 - Bell making case for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. Jordan Bell is the only player in the Pac-12 ranked in the top 10 in rebounds (9th), blocks (3rd) and steals (8th). He is also second in the league in field goal percentage (.625).
5 Oregon's 23-4 record is the second-best in program history. The only better mark for the Webfoots at this point in the season came 90 years ago when the 1926-27 squad was 24-3. Oregon's 12-2 record in league play is the program's best since the 1938-39 NCAA Championship squad went 12-2 out of the gate in the Pacific Coast Conference, and finished 14-2.
SENIOR SALUTE
The Ducks will honor four seniors in postgame ceremonies following the Colorado game, Charlie Noebel, Chris Boucher, Dylan Ennis and senior manager Patrick Benson.
Benson, from Beaverton, Ore., is a four-year manager for the Ducks, and this will be the fourth consecutive year that he has seen the Ducks advance to the NCAA Tournament, as he is on pace to become the winningest manager in program history. He will graduate in March with a degree in advertising.
Noebel, from Irvine, Calif., is one of the Pit Crew's all-time favorite players. He has spent countless hours on the practice squad helping his teammates to get ready to face top-flight competition. One of his biggest thrills was hitting a three-pointer versus Utah in the Pac-12 Tournament, and he received one of the biggest cheers in Matthew Knight Area history when he made a three-pointer earlier this season against Oregon State. Charlie will graduate this fall with a degree in advertising.
Boucher, from Montreal, is one of the most prolific shot blockers in Pac-12 history. A one-of-kind player, Boucher captivated the nation with his ability to block shots and hit three-pointers. He leads the Pac-12 this season at nearly three blocks a game. As a junior, he set the school record with 110 blocked shots. He is the only player in Pac-12 history to have 100 blocks and 35 three-pointers in a single season. Boucher set the school and Matthew Knight Arena record with 9 blocked shots against Arkansas State, and was a Pac-12 all-defensive selection as a junior in 2016. He owns four of the top six single-game blocked shot records in school history. He will graduate in March with a degree in sociology.
Ennis, from Brampton, Ontario, made the most of his second chance to play for the Ducks as a sixth-year graduate student. Ennis has scored more than 1,000 points in his collegiate career that includes stops at Rice and Villanova, prior to Oregon. He has started every game for the Ducks this season. He scored a career-best 22 points against Montana earlier this year, and followed that with 20 points in the home win over USC. He is a nominee for the Pac-12 senior scholar-athlete of the year award. A graduate of Villanova, he will complete his Masters' Degree in conflict and dispute resolution in June.
LAST TIME VS. COLORADO
Colorado hit its first four three-point attempts and rode that momentum to a 74-65 victory over No. 10 Oregon Jan. 28 at the Coors Event Center. The loss ended Oregon's school-record winning streak at 17 games, and kept the Ducks winless all time in Boulder (0-7). It did not help the Ducks' cause that three players fouled out and Oregon was whistled for a season-high 25 fouls. Colorado ran out to a 14-5 lead thanks to those four threes. The Ducks battled back with nine points from Tyler Dorsey and eight from Chris Boucher and only trailed by a point at halftime, 35-34. In the second half, neither team could build more than a two-possession lead until Colorado took charge in the final five minutes. After a Dylan Ennis free throw tied the game at 51-51 with 5:40 to play, the Buffaloes went on a 13-1 run to take a 64-52 lead with 3:11 remaining. Payton Pritchard sparked one final charge by Oregon by hitting a pair of threes in a 9-1 run that cut the Buffaloes' lead to 65-61 with 1:56 remaining. But Colorado made enough free throws down the stretch for the win. Pritchard set a career high with 19 points, including 5-of-9 three-pointers. Ennis added 10.
NATION'S LONGEST ACTIVE HOME WIN STREAK REACHES 41 GAMES
Oregon's winning streak at Matthew Knight Arena is currently at 41 games, which is both the longest string of home wins in UO history, and the longest active home winning streak in the nation. Oregon last dropped a home game Jan. 8, 2015 (Arizona, 80-62). Two of Oregon's four longest home winning streaks have come under Dana Altman.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
The Ducks are 109-13 (.893) all-time at Matthew Knight Arena since the building opened in 2011.
UNDEFEATED AT HOME
Last season, Oregon finished undefeated at home (18-0) for just the fifth time in school history, and for only the second time in the last 78 years. The other undefeated home seasons are 2001-02 (16-0), 1937-38 (16-0), 1925-26 (6-0) and 1911-12 (7-0).
