Oregon rallied into the lead in the fourth inning before dropping the series opener, with game two scheduled for Friday (7 p.m., Pac-12 Network).
EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon freshman pitcher Maggie Balint extended her scoreless innings streak to 30.2 on Thursday before allowing a two-run homer in the sixth inning that propelled No. 12 Washington past the No. 4 Ducks, 4-2, on Thursday in Jane Sanders Stadium.
How It Happened: Oregon (36-3, 9-3 Pac-12) lost for the third time in four games after opening the season 35-0, but the Ducks didn't go down without a fight. After the Huskies (30-9, 7-6) scored an unearned run in the first, the home team rallied into the lead in the bottom of the fourth.
With one out in the fourth, shortstop Nikki Udria was hit by a pitch, and she advanced to second on a single by Jenna Lilley. Mia Camuso's single brought Udria home, and the score was tied.
Lauren Lindvall followed with Oregon's third straight hit, but Lilley was thrown out at home on the play. Madi Bishop then walked to load the bases, and Shannon Rhodes walked as well to push another run across for a 2-1 lead.
Balint extended her scoreless streak to open the fifth, walking the leadoff hitter before getting an out on a fielder's choice. But Ali Aguilar lined a home run to left-center field, and the Huskies regained the lead. They tacked on an insurance run in the seventh off reliever Miranda Elish.
What It Means: Oregon is in the midst of a tough three-series stretch against UCLA, Washington and Arizona that will go a long way toward deciding the 2017 Pac-12 Championship. Now 1-3 to open that stretch, the Ducks will look to regain momentum in the final two games against the Huskies at home.
Up Next: The Ducks host Washington in the second game of the series Friday (7 p.m., Pac-12 Network).
