Successful Day One of the Duck Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men's tennis team collected five wins Friday at the Duck Invitational, three of which came in doubles. Play resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. PT with the semifinals in the doubles draw to be followed by the second and third rounds of singles action.
The Ducks opened the day with a successful run through the first two rounds of doubles play featuring a pair of wins by Ty Gentry and Ethan Young-Smith. The duo of Armando Soemarno and Charles Roberts had a bye in the opening round before posting an 8-2 win in its first match of the day. Both teams have secured a spot in Saturday's semifinal round.
Soemarno and Roberts are now 5-1 this fall including a title at the UCSB Classic in early October. They will take on Carlos Donat and Sema Pankin of Portland while Gentry and Young-Smith will face Andrew Newell and Nicklas Oberg, also of Portland.
In his first match since advancing to the third round of the ITA Northwest Regional, sophomore Riki Oshima cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Portland State's Lucas Castelo Branco. Saturday's second-round opponent will be Sema Pankin of Portland who had a three-set victory on the opening day.
Evan Felcher, one of two Ducks in the yellow bracket, picked up a straight-set victory over Otto Holtari of Portland State. The Oregon freshman trailed 5-4 in the opening set with Holtari serving but rattled off nine of the final 10 games in a 7-5, 6-1 triumph. Felcher is joined in the yellow draw by Roberts who had a first-round bye.
