Ducks Fall to UNLV in Marucci Desert Classic

How it Happened: The Rebels (2-0) struck first, jumping on the board in the bottom of the first. A run-scoring single by Kyle Isbel gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead, scoring Bryson Stott who led off with a double.
The bottom of the lineup provided a spark for the Ducks (1-1) who took a lead with a three-run third inning. Nine-hole hitter Evan Williams drove in Kenyon Yovan, who led off with a base hit, with an RBI single to tie it a one. Kyle Kasser followed with a run-scoring single of his own to score Ray Soderman before Jonny DeLuca brought Williams in with a sacrifice fly.
UNLV reclaimed the lead and chased Oregon starter Cole Stringer (0-1) with three runs in the fifth inning. Jack Wold delivered a run-scoring double after a pair of singles led off the inning to make it 3-2. A sacrifice fly and RBI single put the Rebels in front 4-3.
A single run in the sixth inning stretched the UNLV lead to 5-3 before a three-run double broke it open in the seventh and made it 8-3.
Box Score Notes: Kasser led the way offensively, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Williams recorded his first collegiate base hit, finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Soderman also picked up his first hit as a Duck and finished 1-for-4 with a run scored. Jakob Goldfarb, Gabe Matthews, Ryne Nelson and Yovan each went 1-for-3. Stringer went 4.2 innings in his first start of the young season, giving up four runs on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Notable: Kasser recorded his 36th career multi-hit game and 11th career three-hit game … A trio of freshmen pitchers made their collegiate debuts with Cullen Kafka, Peyton Fuller and Brett Walker all appearing in relief … Goldfarb recorded two outfield assists giving him seven for his career putting him in a tie for third all-time at Oregon.
