
Ducks Fly Past SDSU To Open Weekend In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Oregon men's tennis team opened their weekend in Las Vegas with a decisive 6-1 win over San Diego State Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened: The Ducks (6-2) opened their match against the Aztecs securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spot.
Playing their first match of the season at the No. 3 spot, Cormac Clissold and Thomas Laurent got UO going with a 6-3 win over Joel Popov and Arnaud Restifo. Armando Soemarno and Charles Roberts clinched the point downing Sander Anderson and Nicholas Mitchell to improve to 4-1 at the No. 1 spot this season.
Laurent and Akihiro Tanaka extended the Ducks lead to 3-1 in singles play, recording duplicate 6-0, 6-3 victories at the No. 1 and No 3 positions, respectively.
Clissold sealed the victory for Oregon at the No. 4 spot defeating Popov, 6-2, 6-4.
With the match victory already in hand, Sophomore Ty Gentry and freshman Riki Oshima closed out the match with wins at the No. 6 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
Gentry defeated SDSU's Jan Kirchoff, 6-2, 6-4, while Oshima fought off Rafael Gonzales Almazan in three sets, 7-6(3), 1-6, 1-0(9).
Notable: With their wins today, Cormac Clissold and Ty Gentry remain perfect in dual play with matching 5-0 singles records this spring … Clissold and Gentry have both won their last nine singles matches dating back to the fall season … Gentry and doubles partner Simon Stevens suffered their first loss of the spring season, snapping their 10 match win streak … The duo remain the Ducks leading doubles team with a 14-2 record this year.
