Ducks Take Fifth at SunTrust Gator Invitational

The Oregon women’s golf team finished fifth in the field at the SunTrust Gator Invitational after shooting 9-over 289 in the final round on Sunday
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Oregon women's golf team took fifth place at the SunTrust Gator Invitational after shooting 9-over 289 in the final round at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on Sunday.
How it Happened: The Ducks (293-285-289–867, +27) entered Sunday's third round in seventh place, then shot a steady 9 over to jump up two places and finish fifth in the field. Florida claimed the team title, finishing at even par.
Junior Petra Salko lead the Ducks throughout the invitational. After shooting a career low 68 in the first round, Salko shot 1 over in the final round to finish tied for fifth place individually at 2-over 212.
Junior Kathleen Scavo also had a strong showing this weekend for the Ducks. Scavo carded three birdies in the third round to score 2 over on the day and clock in at 6 over overall.
Sophomore Amy Matsuoka went into the final 18 holes tied for 50th place individually, then shot even par to finish at 12-over 222 and jump 12 places to finish tied for 38th place individually.
Freshman Alexis Phadungmartvorakul shot 7 over in round three to finish at 12-over 222 alongside Matsuoka.
Madi Daniel finished 6 over on the day to end the invitational at 19-over 229.
What it Means: The Ducks proved that they can play three quality rounds of golf. Having Salko and Scavo as the Ducks' top finishers provides them with veteran leadership that is crucial as they move forward in the season.
