EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon softball team had three players taken in the National Pro Fastpitch draft, the league announced on Monday night.
Catcher Gwen Svekis was taken No. 3 overall by Chicago, shortstop DJ Sanders was selected No. 21 overall by Chicago and third baseman Jenna Lilley was picked No. 22 overall by Cleveland.
At No. 3 overall, Svekis is the highest NPF pick in program history. Third baseman Courtney Ceo and pitcher Jessica Moore were picked No. 6 in 2014 and 2013, respectively. The Ducks have had 15 players taken all-time in the NPF draft with 12 of them coming since Mike White took over the program in 2010. Oregon's three picks in 2018 matches the most taken in a single draft, as Geri Ann Glasco, Cheridan Hawkins and Alyssa Gillespie were all picked in 2016. Janelle Lindvall and Koral Costa also singed free agent contracts that year.
Last year shortstop Nikki Udria was taken with the No. 18 overall pick in the NPF by the Scrap Yard Dawgs. Last season former Duck Cheridan Hawkins and current assistant coach Jimmy Kolaitis won a NPF championship with the Scrap Yard Dawgs. The team, which plays near Houston, is no longer part of the league.
Only college seniors are eligible to be taken in the NPF draft.
