BEFORE OREGON
The Oregon softball program has added transfer DJ Sanders to the 2018 roster, head coach Mike White announced Nov. 26. Sanders, a first team NFCA All-American last season as a junior at Louisiana, will join the Ducks for the winter quarter and be immediately eligible for the 2018 season. "DJ's abilities are obvious," White said. "With her incredible power numbers, she will add much depth to our lineup. She will also be an excellent fit as a person into our program." A shortstop for the Ragin' Cajuns, Sanders had a monster junior season. The Columbus, Miss., native led the NCAA with both 29 home runs and 82 RBIs. She hit a career-high .388, posted a .524 on-base percentage and tallied a NCAA-best 1.013 slugging percentage while drawing 46 walks with just 27 strikeouts. While was incredible at the plate, Sanders was also strong in the field, making just seven errors starting all 55 games. Sanders was one of 10 finalists for the USA Softball national player of the year award in 2017 and was also the Sun Belt Conference player of the year. She was a first team all-Sun Belt Conference pick in both 2017 and 2016 and played for the USA Softball junior national team in 2015. Louisiana lost at LSU last year in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional championship but, over the four postseason games, Sanders homered, drove in four runs and scored twice. In a three-game series against Alabama last February, Sanders drove in four runs, scored four times, struck out just once and homered twice in one game. She drove in a whopping eight RBIs at Texas State on April 14. She also had seven RBIs against UT-Arlington on March 19. Sanders enters her senior season at Oregon with 51 career homers and 167 career RBIs. She has started 164 consecutive games in collegiate career as well. Sanders will be with the team on its upcoming international tour of New Zealand.
