Prakel Named Academic All-District

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon senior distance runner Sam Prakel added to his illustrious academic and athletic list of achievements on Wednesday, as he was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 8 Men's Track/Cross Country first team, selected by CoSIDA.
The reigning Pac-12 Men's Scholar Athlete of the Year in cross country, Prakel's Academic All-District distinction comes a few days after advancing out of the NCAA West Regional to the NCAA Championships in Eugene in the 1,500 meters for the second time in his career.
Prakel carries a 3.89 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) as a biochemistry major and recently claimed his first conference title at the Pac-12 Championships, winning the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:40.20. The Versailles, Ohio native else stepped up in the 800 meters at Pac-12 Championships, finishing third to contribute a total of 16 points towards the men's 12th consecutive conference outdoor title.
Prakel will enter next week's NCAA Championships ranked No. 4 in the 1,500 thanks to a career-best time of 3:36.84, which he ran earlier in the spring at the Bryan Clay Invitational. His mark of 3:36.84 ranks No. 6 all-time at Oregon.
