Lam Wins ‘B’ Flight Title at UCSB Classic

EUGENE, Ore. – In his first tournament as a Duck, junior transfer Brandon Lam won the singles title in the 'B' flight of the USCB Classic. In Sunday's final, he posted a 7-6(4), 6-3 win over Fernando Fonseca of Cal Poly. The match was one of three finals for the Oregon men's tennis team.
Lam went three sets in his first match of the tournament but posted straight-set wins in his last three matches. The Santa Rosa Valley, Calif., native is in his first year at Oregon after beginning his collegiate career at Indiana.
He and freshman Luke Vandecasteele played doubles together at the UCSB Classic and made a run to the 'A' flight final. The UO pair dropped an 8-6 decision to UCSB's Joey Rotheram and Victor Krustev.
In the 'C' bracket, sophomore Evan Felcher registered three wins during the weekend before falling to Campbell Nakayama of Cal Poly (6-0, 6-4) in Sunday's final.

The Ducks' next fall tournament is the ITA Northwest Regional Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. The five-day event begins Oct. 25 and will be hosted by Stanford. Oregon swept the regional titles a year ago with Emmanuel Coste taking the singles crown and Joshua Charlton teaming with Thomas Laurent to win the doubles crown.
