EUGENE, Ore. – With a strong start at the ITA Northwest Regional in Palo Alto, Calif., the Oregon men's tennis team secured four spots in the round of 16 of the singles draw. The Ducks also advanced all four of their doubles teams into the second round.

Junior Riki Oshima and freshman Jesper Klöv-Nilsson each had three wins—two singles, one doubles—Friday. Oshima, a 9-16 seed in the singles draw, posted a pair of straight-set wins and began his day with Klöv-Nilsson in an 8-4 win on the doubles court. Klöv-Nilsson had to rally from down a set to win his second-round match over Eric Hadigian of Gonzaga.
Sophomore Joshua Charlton, a 5-8 seed, picked up two singles wins on day one. He and doubles partner Ty Gentry received a first-round bye as the tournament's No. 2 seed. Charlton won last year's Northwest Region doubles title with Thomas Laurent.
The Ducks' highest-seeded player is junior Emmanuel Coste. He paired with Giorgio Soemarno for an 8-4 win in the first round of doubles. In singles, Coste received a first-round bye and then had to rally past Matthew Hollingworth of Gonzaga in three sets.
Brandon Lam and Luke Vandecasteele, finalists at last weekend's UCSB Classic, also advanced in doubles play. Vandecasteele had a 6-1, 6-0 win in his singles opener before dropping a tough three-set decision to Cal's Jacob Brumm, a 9-16 tournament seed.
