Ducks Turn Attention to UCSB Classic
10/09/19 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – With four Ducks in Tulsa for the ITA All-American, the remainder of the Oregon men's tennis roster turns its collective focus to the UCSB Classic in Santa Barbara, Calif. The three-day event begins Friday. In Wednesday results from the ITA All-American, sophomore Joshua Charlton lost to No. 3 seed and fourth-ranked Yuya Ito of Texas.
Having won three matches in the previous two days to qualify for the main draw, Charlton's run in Tulsa came to an end with a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Ito. Charlton, ranked No. 115 in the preseason poll, won three of four matches in singles play and split a pair of doubles matches with Ty Gentry. The Ducks' duo begins the fall season ranked No. 45 nationally.
Junior Charles Roberts won last year's UCSB Classic doubles title with 2019 senior Armando Soemarno. Roberts and freshman Jesper Klöv-Nilsson are paired together for the tournament. The weekend will also be the UO debuts for junior transfer Brandon Lam, and freshmen Luke Vandecasteele and Gio Soemarno.
Along with singles play, the Ducks' doubles lineup will also feature the teams of Lam and Vandecasteele, and Soemarno and Evan Felcher.
