Fall Season Ends in ITA Second Round

EUGENE, Ore. – With a pair of losses to top-15 opponents Thursday at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, the fall season came to its conclusion for the Oregon men's tennis team. Joshua Charlton lost to eighth-ranked Daniel Cukierman (USC) in two, tight sets. In another second-round match, Charlton and Ty Gentry fell to No. 15 Payton Holden and Ryan Seggerman of Princeton.

No. 8 Daniel Cukierman (USC) def. No. 115 Joshua Charlton (ORE) – 6-4, 7-6(5)
Doubles
No. 15 Payton Holden/Ryan Seggerman (PRNC) def. No. 45 Joshua Charlton/Ty Gentry (ORE) – 6-2, 6-4
Charlton finishes the fall schedule with a 10-4 record with four wins over ranked opponents. In the first round of the national tournament, he defeated No. 29 Gabriel Decamps of UCF. Charlton's fall season also consisted of a run through qualifying into the main draw at the ITA All-American. He also advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.
In the first set of Thursday's match, Charlton and Cukierman exchanged breaks midway through the frame before the No. 4 seed secured another break to win the opener. With the score tied 5-all in the second, Charlton got a break of his own and served for the set but Cukierman responded with a break to force a tiebreak.
Charlton and Gentry posted a 7-2 mark during the fall and won the ITA Northwest Regional doubles title to earn their spot at the National Fall tournament. In Wednesday's first round, the UO pair beat Duke's Sean Sculley and Nick Stachowiak. The Blue Devils were semifinalists at the ITA All-American.
