12/02/19 | Women's Volleyball
EUGENE, Ore. – On the strength of her performance in the Ducks' season finale, middle blocker Karson Bacon has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week as announced Monday by the league office.
Bacon registered 11 kills, a season-high .579 hitting percentage and seven blocks in Oregon's four-set victory over Oregon State in front of 3,098 fans at Matthew Knight Arena. Friday's effort marked her fifth match of the season with 10 or more kills and 11th outing with at least five blocks.
The Fontana, Calif., native did not commit an attack error in 19 swings and put down the match-winning kill against the Beavers. She is the second Oregon player to win Freshman of the Week honors this year; setter Kylie Robinson was recognized twice in September.
Bacon finished her freshman campaign with a season-high 12 kills against Arizona State (Nov. 17) and nine blocks against No. 24 Washington State (Nov. 10). Over the final four weeks of the season, Bacon totaled 57 kills in seven matches, hit .417 and averaged 1.10 blocks per set.
Bacon was one of four Ducks in double figures against Oregon State. Seniors Ronika Stone and Willow Johnson had 16 and 14 kills, respectively, with Bacon and sophomore Brooke Nuneviller each adding 11 kills in the victory.
