Four Ducks Post Sub-4:00 Times in Seattle
02/16/19 | Track and Field
EUGENE, Ore. – The Men of Oregon made the most of their trip to Seattle for the UW Last Chance meet, capping the weekend with four sub-4:00 mile performances Saturday. Paced by a pair of 3:57 efforts by Charlie Hunter and James West, the Ducks finished 2-3-5-7-8 in the invitational section of the event.
At the bell, Hunter took off to push the pace of the final lap which resulted in he and West crossing the line in 3:57.74 and 3:57.75, respectively. The two Ducks become the No. 8 and 9 performers in program history in the mile and into the top 10 in the NCAA this season.
Redshirt senior Blake Haney finished fifth overall in a season-best time of 3:58.73 and was followed by Jackson Mestler in a 3:59.77 outing that marked his first time under the four-minute mark. Mestler came into the race with a PR of 4:07.06 from earlier this year.
Based on times entering the day, the Ducks currently have four runners inside the top 16 of the NCAA season performance list with Hunter (No. 5), West (6), Brown (11) and Haney (15). West and Brown were back on the track after helping the DMR post a top-10 national time (9:28.62) Friday night.
With Saturday's results, the Men of Oregon have six runners under four minutes this season. Brown ran 3:58.22 at the Husky Classic last weekend and Cooper Teare posted a time of 3:59.21 at the Razorback Invitational in late January.
