Ducks Fall Short at No. 15 Stanford

Despite a hard fight and 5-0 run, the Ducks couldn't hold off No. 15 Stanford at Johnson Turf on Sunday afternoon.
Stanford, Calif. – The Oregon women's lacrosse team lost in a seven-point deficit to No. 15 Stanford at Johnson Turf on Sunday afternoon, 15-8.
How It Happened: The Cardinal began the game with an 8-0 run in the first eight minutes for a substantial advantage over the Ducks. Oregon responded a 4-0 run of their own to shrink the gap.
Senior attacker Shannon Williams scored back-to-back goals to start the Oregon run, followed by a third goal from sophomore attacker Lillian Stump. Junior attacker Lindsey White closed out the run by scoring her first goal the season with only one second remaining in the half. The Ducks trailed Stanford, 8-4, headed into intermission.
Senior midfielder Julia Taylor added to Oregon's streak by tallying a fifth consecutive goal for the Ducks at the 26:00-minute mark in the second half. Stanford responded with four goals in a row to extend its lead to 12-6, until Stump registered her second goal of the game with 11 minutes remaining. Freshmen Jamie Level and Carlie Leach each scored once to close out the game behind Stanford, 15-8.
Notables: Six Ducks scored a total of 14 goals against Stanford… Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Hall recorded double-digits saves for the fifth time this season with 12 saves… Freshman midfielder Lily Shalz led Oregon with a season-high three ground balls.
