Sweet Once Again

EUGENE, Ore. – For the third straight season, the Oregon women's basketball team is moving on to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament. The No. 2 seed Ducks defeated No. 10 seed Indiana, 91-68, on Sunday night to advance to the Sweet 16.
UP NEXT: The Ducks will head to the Moda Center for the Sweet 16, meeting either Syracuse or South Dakota State on Friday night. Tip time will be either 6 PM or 8:30 PM.
"This is three years in a row now that we've made it (to the Sweet 16) and we want to keep it going," said head coach Kelly Graves. "We're excited to go to Portland. We didn't talk about it too much as a team – we were really focused on taking it just one game at a time – but it's going to be a special thing to go up there."
HOW IT HAPPENED: Oregon a back-and-forth first few minutes, the Ducks opened up a 16-8 lead using a 10-0 run, capped by an Oti Gildon and-one. The Hoosiers responded with a 6-0 run to cut the Oregon lead to just two, 18-16, with 1:56 left in the first. The Ducks wrapped up the first quarter with a 24-19 advantage but the lead would be short-lived.
The Hoosiers opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run and the Ducks trailed, 28-24, with 8:14 left in the second. Oregon bounced right back with a 14-0 run, including a pair of Sabrina Ionescu three-pointers, as the Ducks retook the lead, 38-28, with 2:37 left in the second. The Ducks owned a 43-31 lead at halftime after shooting 59 percent (17-of-29) from the field and 50 percent (5-of-10) from three. Ionescu scored or assisted on 30 of the Ducks' 43 first half points.
Oregon continued to pull away in the third quarter, leading by as much as 16 points on two occasions before taking a 15-point lead, 68-53, into the third. UO never led by fewer than 10 in the third.
In the fourth quarter, an Indiana layup cut the Oregon lead to 13 points at 74-61 with 6:58 left to play. The Ducks responded with a 10-0 run to put the game away before coming away with a 23-point victory, 91-68.
TRIPLE-DOUBLE: Ionescu recorded her NCAA 18th career triple-double – and NCAA record eighth this season – with 29 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds…Ionescu joined Nicole Powell (Stanford, 2002) as the only players to have multiple triple-doubles in tournament play…
DOUBLE FIGURES STREAK: Ionescu has reached double figures scoring in 68 consecutive games and 99 times in her career.
