Ducks Fall to ASU in Double Overtime Thriller

The Oregon women's lacrosse team fought through a double overtime game that ended with a one-point loss to Arizona State on Friday afternoon.
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Oregon women's lacrosse team put up a fight against Arizona State through a double-overtime game at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium on Friday afternoon that ended with sudden-death goal from the Sun Devils, while the Ducks fell by one point, 15-14.
Sophomore attacker Lillian Stump and freshman midfielder Jamie Level combined for 10 of the Ducks' 14 goals, each scoring a career-high five goals.
How It Happened: Oregon and Arizona State were neck-and-neck throughout the entire game. Arizona State registered the first goal within the beginning 30 seconds of the game. Stump and Level combined for a 3-0 run to bring the Ducks into the lead. UO and ASU continued to exchange goals for the rest of the first half. Senior Madeline Reece and junior Lindsey White added two goals for the Ducks, while Stump recorded her third goal for her first career hat trick. The Sun Devils had a one-point lead, 7-6, over the Ducks upon intermission.
Level began the second half with four consecutive goals in the first three minutes, while Arizona State scored four goals themselves. Freshman midfielder Sydney Lawrence earned first collegiate goal at the 14:58-minute mark. Stump exchanged two more goals with the Sun Devils, until senior midfielder Julia Taylor put the Ducks ahead, 14-12, by scoring with 8:23 minutes left in the game. Arizona State went on a 3-0 run to tie things up with Oregon, 14-14, and push the game into extra periods.
The two squads headed into sudden-death overtime. Neither team scored in the first overtime period, until Arizona State closed out the game in double-overtime with a game-winning goal and a final score of 15-14.
