07/26/19 | Track and Field
EUGENE, Ore. – Former Oregon standout English Gardner turned in a silver-medal performance in the 100 meters Friday evening at the 2019 Toyota USA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. On the men's side, Cravon Gillespie (10.19) just missed out on a medal with a fourth-place finish in same event.
Friday marked Gardner's seventh appearance in the 100-meter final at the USA Championships, and her fourth medal. She was the champion in 2013 and 2016, and previously runner-up in 2015. Gardner was the fastest qualifier (11.16) in the semifinals earlier in the day. She clocked a time of 11.25 in the final. Gardner is also entered in the 200 meters which begins Saturday.
Four #ProDucks are moving on to the final of the men's 1,500 meters. Johnny Gregorek (3:42.44) was the third-fastest overall qualifier in the opening round. Five-time USA champion and reigning Olympic gold medalist Matthew Centrowitz also advanced along with Sam Prakel and Tim Gorman. The final is scheduled for Sunday at 5:33 p.m. (PT) on NBC.
In the women's 800 meters, Raevyn Rogers was the top qualifier for a second-consecutive round. She crossed the finish in 2:00.90 to win heat two and secure a spot in her third-career final at the national meet. Rogers was the runner-up in 2018. The final is Sunday 5:12 p.m.
Briyahna DesRosiers kept her season going with a qualifying effort in heat one of Friday's 400-meter semifinals. Running out of lane eight, she matched her time of 52.02 from the opening round to move on to the USA final. DesRosiers will next line up Saturday at 2:34 p.m.
