Hull Runs to Bronze in Tokyo
09/16/25 | Cross Country, Track and Field
Recent grad Klaudia Kazimierska finished seventh in the 1500 final.
EUGENE, Ore. – Jessica Hull won a second outdoor global medal Tuesday with her third-place finish in the 1500 meters at the World Championships in Tokyo. The bronze also represents the first-ever World medal for Australia in the event. In the same race, recent UO grad Klaudia Kazimierska finished seventh in 3:57.95, a new lifetime and all-dates collegiate best.
In a tight finish for second behind gold medalist Faith Kipyegon, Hull was passed by Dorcos Ewoi in the final strides but held off Nelly Chepchirchir for the bronze medal. Hull clocked a time of 3:55.16 to add another top-three global finish in the event to go along with her silver at last summer's Olympic Games in Paris.
Hull is also entered in the 800 meters which begin Thursday.
Kazimierska, now a two-time global finalist at 1500 meters, improved on her 10th-place finish in Paris, and knocked two seconds off her previous lifetime best with Tuesday's performance. She was also the highest-placing European in the field. Kazimierska, who announced her professional Nike contract back in July, was making her World Championships debut.
Nikki Hiltz (3:57.08) was fifth in the World 1500 final. Hiltz ran for Oregon in 2015 before completing their collegiate career at Arkansas.
In the first event of the day, UO senior Matthew Erickson made his World Championship debut with an eighth-place finish in his heat of the 800 meters. He did not qualify for the semifinal round. Erickson, the reigning Big Ten and NCAA indoor champion in the event, has one season of indoor eligibility remaining.
