Pritchard Perfect! Ducks Rally From 16 Down to Stun UW
01/18/20 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – Payton Pritchard drilled a step-back three-pointer with :03 remaining in overtime to cap No. 8 Oregon's stunning 64-61 comeback victory over Washington Saturday afternoon at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Pritchard's shot was true from 26 feet, the last of his 22 points ensuring that the Wooden Award candidate would never lose in Seattle during his career as a Duck.
"I'll be there to make that play. Take that shot. Make that pass," said Pritchard. "We kept fighting the whole game."
Chandler Lawson played just as a significant role for Oregon (15-4, 4-2 Pac-12) with career highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds for his first career double-double.
How it Happened: Trailing by 16, 48-32, with 10:22 remaining in the second half, Oregon reeled off a 15-2 run to close within 50-47 with 4:31 left to play, including four points from Lawson.
Washington (12-7, 2-4) regained its footing to take a 54-47 lead with 3:20 to play, before a 7-0 Oregon run, capped by a deep three-pointer by Pritchard, to knot the game 54-54 with 1:08 remaining. After a pair of Husky free throws, Shakur Juiston tied the game 56-56 on a short jumper in the lane with :17 left and Washington's three-pointer at the buzzer was long to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Pritchard found Lawson in the paint to tie the game 59-59 on a jumper with 2:12 left before Pritchard gave Oregon a 61-59 lead on a runner in the lane with 1:10 remaining.
The Huskies' Isaiah Stewart tied the game at 61-61 on a pair of free throws, setting the stage for Prichard's heroics.
Oregon trailed 37-25 at halftime. Pritchard had nine points while Lawson added seven.
Who Stood Out: Oregon's defense in the second half and overtime. The Huskies were just 5-of-26 from the field in the second half and overtime. Juiston added eight points and nine rebounds.
"Our press changed the tempo of the game," said head coach Dana Altman. "On a night we didn't shoot it well, that gave us a chance."
