Road Trip for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend

EUGENE, Ore. – After two home weekends to begin its 2020 dual season, the Oregon men's tennis team is headed to College Station, Texas, for a pair of ITA Kick-Off matches. The Ducks open play Saturday at 8 a.m. (PT) against Georgia Tech, and close out the weekend Sunday by facing either No. 9 Texas A&M or South Alabama.

Last Time Out
Oregon heads to the ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a 3-1 record through the first two weeks of the season. After a 4-0 win over UCSB (Jan. 18), the Ducks suffered their first loss of the year in a 5-2 setback to No. 17 Michigan. Oregon picked up wins at No. 4 and 6 singles by junior Riki Oshima and freshman Jesper Klöv-Nilsson, respectively.
Through Two Weeks
Sophomore Joshua Charlton continues to lead the Ducks with his 13-5 record this season including a 3-1 mark in dual play. On the heels of an impressive tournament season, he checked in at No. 14 in the final ITA fall rankings. He and senior Ty Gentry, ranked No. 8 after the fall season, have won two of three in dual play and are 9-3 overall. Freshman Jesper Klöv-Nilsson enters the weekend 4-0 in dual play.
Career Movement
With wins against Eastern Washington and Portland State (Jan. 11) with sophomore Joshua Charlton, senior Ty Gentry pushed his career total to 64 doubles victories. That figure ties Manuel Kost (2001-05) for the ninth most in program history. Gentry and Charlton (9-3) are the No. 8-ranked duo in the country.

Approaching a Milestone
Head coach Nils Schyllander is currently in his 14th season at the helm of the men's program at Oregon. In that time, he has a 189-133 (.587) record with four NCAA Tournament appearances. Overall, he has spent 17 years at Oregon having additionally served as the women's head coach from 2002-2006 when he posted a 58-41 (.586) mark. Schyllander enters the weekend two shy of 250 career victories.
About Georgia Tech
Saturday's match between Oregon and Georgia Tech (2-0) will be just the second between the two programs and first since 2004. The Yellow Jackets are paced by a trio of underclassmen, each with at least 11 victories this season. Freshman Marcus McDaniel has a team-high 13 wins so far this season.
About Texas A&M
The Aggies are the No. 9 team in the country, and are set to open their dual campaign with the ITA Kick-Off event. Texas A&M (0-0) had seven players inside the top 110 of the final ITA fall rankings including third-ranked Valentin Vacherot and No. 10 Hady Habib. The Aggies advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
About South Alabama
The Jaguars enter the weekend with a 0-1 record in dual play, a 5-2 loss to Florida State. South Alabama has the No. 30-ranked doubles team in the nation with Loic Cloes and Clement Marzol. The Jaguars have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two years.

The Ducks are scheduled to face up to nine teams mentioned in the Jan. 8 release of the ITA preseason rankings. Five of those will be played in Eugene including a non-conference date with No. 17 Michigan. Oregon is also set for seven home matches against teams that played in last year's NCAA Tournament…
