01/26/20 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men's tennis team capped its ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-0 victory over South Alabama Sunday afternoon in College Station, Texas. With the result, the Ducks improve to 4-2 through the first three weeks of the dual season and snap a two-match skid.
How It Happened: The doubles point came down to the top-30 matchup on court one featuring the UO pair of Ty Gentry and Joshua Charlton against South Alabama's Clement Marzol and Loic Cloes. With the score tied at 4-all, Gentry put away a volley to secure a break for the Ducks and then Charlton went back and served out the match.
Gentry and Charlton, the eighth-ranked doubles team in the nation, improve to 11-3 after a pair of wins during the ITA Kickoff Weekend in College Station. With 66 career doubles wins, Gentry moves into sole possession of eighth place on the program's all-time list.
At No. 2 doubles, Charles Roberts and Brandon Lam posted a quick 6-2 victory for an early advantage. However, South Alabama (0-3) pulled even with a win on court three which put the doubles point up for grabs at the No. 1 spot.
With the doubles point in hand, the Ducks went on to collect singles wins on courts three, four and six to complete the 4-0 clinch victory. Playing up a spot from Saturday's weekend opener, Riki Oshima was the first player done with a 6-0, 6-2 win on court three.
Lam, playing at the No. 6 singles, pushed Oregon's lead to 3-0 when he beat Jordan Coutinho (6-1, 6-4) for his second win of the day. On court four, freshman Luke Vandecasteele clinched the team win with another straight-set triumph.
