Hebard Dominates, Ionescu Makes History in 11th Straight Win
02/14/20 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – Ruthy Hebard posted a monster double-double and Sabrina Ionescu surpassed 1,000 career assists on Friday night as the No. 3 ranked Oregon women's basketball team won its 11th straight game, 80-66, over No. 7 UCLA before 5,912 fans in Pauley Pavilion.
The Ducks (23-2, 12-1) picked up their eighth win over a ranked team – and fifth against a top-10 opponent – during their current win streak behind a huge night from Hebard, who recorded her 51st career double-double and 12th of the season with 30 points and 17 rebounds.
Ionescu reached 1,000 career assists with three in the first quarter before finishing the game with eight while adding 18 points and seven rebounds. The senior superstar joins Courtney Vandersloot – who also played under Kelly Graves at Gonzaga – as the only players in NCAA men's or women's history to reach 2,000 career points and 1,000 assists. Ionescu is just the fifth women's player in NCAA history to record 1,000 assists.

With the win, Oregon now holds a two-game lead in the Pac-12 standings and the head-to-head tiebreaker over UCLA with five regular-season games remaining. The Ducks will enter Sunday's contest at USC with a one-game lead over No. 8 Stanford.
How it Happened: The Ducks jumped out to a 7-0 lead behind five early points from Minyon Moore, who is playing on familiar territory this weekend after spending the last three years at USC. A bucket by Hebard made it 13-4 before UCLA cut it to 15-8, but Oregon closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 14-point lead through the first 10 minutes.
Ionescu found Hebard for a lay-in to start the run before hitting Taylor Chavez for a three at the end of the period, putting her in rarefied air with her 1,000th career assist.
It was all Hebard in the third quarter, as the senior went 6-of-7 from the floor for 12 of her 30 points. Hebard scored eight of those 12 points during a 10-0 Oregon run that pushed the Ducks' lead to 26 points, and she made Oregon's final basket of the quarter to get their advantage back to 26 with two minutes remaining. But UCLA was able to build some momentum going into the fourth, scoring seven unanswered to make it a 19-point game with 10 minutes to play.
UCLA pushed its run to 13-0 with six straight points to open the fourth quarter, cutting its deficit to 13 points before Hebard answered with a second-chance bucket. Ionescu hit a pull-up jumper with 4:18 remaining to get Oregon's lead back to 16, but UCLA wouldn't go away as the Bruins responded with a 6-0 run. Ionescu pushed the lead back to 12 with a pair of free throws, and Satou Sabally hit a clutch midrange jumper and followed with a rebound basket to help hold off UCLA's comeback attempt and secure the top-10 road win for the Ducks.
Who Stood Out: Hebard was a matchup nightmare for the Bruins down low, going 14-of-19 from the field for her third 30-point game of the season and fifth of her career. Ionescu made history with her 1,000th assist, and finished just two dimes and three rebounds shy of her 25th career triple-double. Sabally added nine points and six rebounds, Moore scored nine points with three assists, and Chavez finished with eight points on 2-of-2 three-point shooting.
Ionescu Chasing 2K/1K/1K: With 1,000 assists secured, Ionescu is now just one step away from doing something no other man or woman has ever done in NCAA history. Now with 973 rebounds, Ionescu is only 27 away from becoming the first player ever to record 2,000 career points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists.
Up Next: Moore will lead the Ducks into her old stomping grounds on Sunday as No. 3 Oregon takes on USC – a team that defeated No. 11 Oregon State on Friday night – at 1 p.m. PT in the Galen Center (Pac-12 Network).

UCLA (21-3, 10-3) opened the second quarter with five straight points, but a lay-in by Ionescu ignited an 8-0 run that included another three-pointer by Chavez. A Ionescu triple pushed Oregon's lead to 19 with three minutes to go before halftime, and freshman Jaz Shelley drained one from deep at the 1:09 mark to give the Ducks their biggest lead of the half, 46-26. After a UCLA basket, Ionescu drove into the lane and finished through traffic with her left hand to beat the buzzer and send Oregon into the break with a 20-point advantage.1?0?0?0?!!@sabrina_i20 finds @Taylormichele3 for three, and Ionescu is just the fifth player in @ncaawbb history to reach 1,000 career assists, and only the second player EVER to have 2,000+ points and 1,000+ assists! #GoDucks | @Pac12Network pic.twitter.com/srVfGE6wFy
