Sold Out
Sunday's game between the Ducks and the Sun Devils is officially sold out. Oregon will play in front of a capacity crowd of 12,364 for the second time in its last three home games, and the fourth time ever in Matthew Knight Arena. It will mark the fifth sellout in Oregon women's basketball history.
Numbers to Know
8 - Sabrina Ionescu is fifth in NCAA WBB history with 992 career assists, just eight away from reaching 1,000 in her career.
24 - Sabrina Ionescu's 24 career triple-doubles are an NCAA all-time record for both men and women; NCAA-leading 6 this season.
86.2 - The Ducks boast the nation's No. 1 ranked scoring offense entering Sunday's game at 86.2 points per game.
1.85 - Oregon is No. 1 in the nation with a 1.85 assist-to-turnover ratio; Minyon Moore ranks No. 2 individually at 3.65
16 - Satou Sabally has scored at least 16 points in nine straight games, averaging 19.3 PPG during that stretch.
20 - Ruthy Hebard owns a team-leading eight 20-point performances this season, including three in the last four games entering Sunday.
Ranked Matchup Is All Ducks
A showdown between ranked teams turned one-sided before halftime on Friday, as the No. 3 Ducks beat No. 12 Arizona, 85-52, behind senior Sabrina Ionescu's 24th career triple-double. Ionescu finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for her NCAA-leading sixth triple-double of the season, and second this year against the Wildcats. Ruthy Hebard went 10-of-13 from the floor for a game-high 22 points, Satou Sabally stayed hot with 17 points and 11 boards for her second straight double-double, and Taylor Chavez was fantastic off the bench with 17 points and two steals.
Alone In First Place
Coupled with a Stanford loss at UCLA, Friday's win over the Wildcats put the Ducks alone in first place in the Pac-12 standings at 10-1 entering Sunday's game. Seeking its third straight Pac-12 regular season title, Oregon owns a one-game lead over the Cardinal and the Bruins, with Oregon State and Arizona both three games behind.
Eight Assists Away From 1,000
Sabrina Ionescu enters Sunday's game only eight assists away from joining Courtney Vandersloot - who also played under Kelly Graves at Gonzaga - as the only players in NCAA history to record 2,000-plus points and 1,000-plus assists. Ionescu's 992 career assists currently rank No. 5 on the NCAA all-time women's list after she moved up two spots on Friday, and she is the UO and Pac-12 all-time assists leader for both men and women. Ionescu leads the nation this season with 8.7 APG and 200 total dimes, already good for No. 5 in UO single-season history.
Last Meeting, Series History Vs. ASU
Their last loss before their current nine-game win streak began, the Ducks led by 12 with less than eight minutes remaining on Jan. 10 in Tempe but were unable to hold on as ASU hit a flurry of three-pointers and controlled the boards late to come back and win, 72-66. Oregon relied heavily on Sabrina Ionescu, who had game-highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds. The Sun Devils' win broke a tie in the all-time series and gave them a 35-34 advantage, while also snapping a four-game UO win streak.
Ramping Up The Resume
The Ducks' surge since that loss in Tempe has bolstered their resume in a big way as they aim to win the Pac-12 for a third straight year and secure a berth in the NCAA Tournament regional to be played in Portland. Oregon has beaten six AP top-25 teams during its nine-game win streak, including five top-15 foes and four teams ranked in the top 10. The Ducks were the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Committee's first top-16 reveal on Monday, and they enter Sunday at No. 1 in the NCAA RPI rankings.
The "Big Three"
The Ducks' power trio of Sabrina Ionescu, Ruthy Hebard and Satou Sabally is arguably the best "Big Three" in the nation. Ionescu leads the team this season with 17.2 points per game while averaging 8.8 rebounds and an NCAA-leading 8.7 assists per game, Hebard is averaging 16.6 points and a team-best 9.5 rebounds per game, and Sabally's stellar play during the nine-game win streak has her up to 16.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Oregon enters Sunday's game as the only team in the nation with three regulars averaging at least 16.0 PPG, and the three Ducks rank fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Pac-12 in scoring.
Sabally On Offensive Tear
Satou Sabally has taken her game to another level during Oregon's nine-game win streak. Sabally is averaging 19.3 points and 8.3 rebounds over the last nine games, headlined by a season-high 31 points on 1/19/20 against California and 23 points last Thursday at Utah. The junior has double-doubles in each of the last two games, and four of her career-high five this season have come in the last nine games to give her nine in her career. Sabally has scored at least 16 points in each of the last nine games, giving her double-figure points in 16 of 19 games so far this year. Though her three-point shooting percentage is down from a year ago, Sabally has been aggressive attacking the rim and is a whopping 53-of-60 (88.3%) from the free-throw line during the streak.
Hebard the Hammer
Ruthy Hebard has been a dominant force down low for the Ducks all season, but she has performed especially well over the last few games. Hebard has three double-doubles in Oregon's last five contests - giving her an even 50 for her career - and she has scored at least 20 points in three of the last four games, including back-to-back 22-point performances entering Sunday. No. 3 in the nation with a 67.3 percent field-goal percentage, Hebard was 10-of-14 from the floor in one of the most impressive outings of her career on Monday at No. 4 UConn, and she followed that up with a 10-of-13 showing on Friday against No. 12 Arizona. Hebard is No. 2 in the Pac-12 in rebounding this season, grabbing double-digit boards a team-high 11 times.
Sixth Woman of the Year?
The Ducks boast one of the most established starting lineups in the nation, but one of the most vital contributors on the roster this season has been sophomore Taylor Chavez. Chavez was huge in Friday's win over No. 12 Arizona with 17 points and two steals in 26 minutes of action, and she has scored in double figures five times while providing excellent defense and strong three-point shooting off the bench. The Surprise, Ariz., native leads the Pac-12 in three-point shooting percentage at 46.4 - including a 57.1 percent mark in Pac-12 play - and she lit up Utah State for a career-high 25 points on 11/13/19 in the lone start of her career.
This is the Greatest Show
The Ducks are a perfect 12-0 at home this season, and one of the biggest reasons for UO's success in MKA is the team's popularity in and around Eugene. Oregon's 1/24/20 Civil War showdown was played in front of a capacity crowd of 12,364, marking the fourth sellout in Oregon women's basketball history and the third inside Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon leads the nation in total attendance (125,689) and is No. 2 nationally in average attendance (10,474), trailing only South Carolina (11,336) - and those figures don't even include the 11,530 fans who came to watch the Ducks take down the USA Women's National Team on 11/9/19. Oregon has drawn at least 10,000 fans in each of its last eight home games, breaking 11,000 four times and 12,000 twice.
Historic Win In Storrs
The Ducks took the basketball world by storm last Monday night when they blasted 11-time national champion and No. 4 ranked UConn on its home floor, 74-56, in front of a national audience. Oregon handed the Huskies their first loss in Gampel Pavilion since 2013, and their most lopsided defeat ever in that building since it opened in 1990. It was also Oregon's first ever oad win over a top-five opponent. Oregon's starting lineup was stellar, with all five starters scoring in double figures. Ruthy Hebard was a monster inside with 22 points and 12 rebounds as UO dominated 44-14 in the paint and Satou Sabally also had a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. Sabrina Ionescu (10 P, 9 R, 9 A) nearly notched the first-ever triple-double against a UConn team, Minyon Moore was everywhere with 12 points, six assists and two steals, and Erin Boley had 13 first-half points on 5-of-7 shooting.
