Postseason Begins Friday in Las Vegas
03/05/20 | Women's Basketball
LAS VEGAS - With a third straight Pac-12 regular season title in hand, the No. 3 ranked Oregon women's basketball team will look to cut down more nets this weekend at the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas.
Riding a 16-game win streak into the postseason, Oregon (28-2, 17-1) is seeking its second-ever conference tournament championship after winning in 2017-18. The Ducks will get a bye in the opening round as the No. 1 seed and will face the winner of Thursday's 8/9 game between Utah and Washington in the quarterfinals on Friday at 2 p.m. PT in Mandalay Bay Events Center (Pac-12 Network).
Three-Peat!
The Ducks clinched their third straight Pac-12 regular-season title last weekend in Matthew Knight Arena, joining Stanford as the only teams ever to win three or more conference championships in a row. UO has now won four outright conference titles and five total, and the Ducks set a new program record this season with 17 Pac-12 victories.
A Win Would...
» Match last season's 17-game win streak, equaling the second-longest win streak in program history (21, 1978-79).
» Send UO to a fourth straight Pac-12 Tournament semifinals.
» Put the Ducks one win away from a third straight 30-win season.
Ducks Dominate Pac-12 Awards
The Ducks were all over the Pac-12 end-of-season awards this week, led by a third straight Pac-12 player of the year award for Sabrina Ionescu, who became the first player ever to win the honor three years in a row. Ionescu, Ruthy Hebard and Satou Sabally all landed on the 15-player all-Pac-12 team, making Ionescu and Hebard the first four-time selections in Oregon history. Sophomore Taylor Chavez was named Pac-12 sixth player of the year, Minyon Moore earned her third straight Pac-12 all-defensive selection, and Kelly Graves was voted the John R. Wooden Pac-12 coach of the year by his peers for the second year in a row.

Pac-12 Tournament History
Oregon is 11-17 all-time in the Pac-12 Tournament and the Ducks have reached the title game in each of the last two seasons, the first two championship game appearances in program history. The No. 1 seed for the third straight year, Oregon beat Stanford in the championship game in 2017-18 to win its first-ever Pac-12 Tournament title before falling to the Cardinal in last year's title game. Kelly Graves is 7-4 all-time in the Pac-12 Tournament.
Loaded Resume
The Ducks' 16-game win streak has bolstered their resume in a big way as they close in on locking up the top seed in the NCAA Tournament regional to be played in Portland. Oregon is beating its opponents by an average of 25.9 PPG during its win streak, including an 18.2 PPG advantage in nine wins over ranked teams. The Ducks have beaten six top-10 teams during the streak, outscoring them by 15.5 PPG, and three top-five teams by an average of 19.3 PPG. Four of those six top-10 wins have come on the road, and Oregon beat Stanford twice in the same season for the first time since 1987 to account for two of its three top-five victories. The Ducks' lone nonconference win during the streak was a historic 74-56 win at No. 4 UConn on 2/3/20, when Oregon handed the perennial national champion Huskies their worst home loss in Gampel Pavilion since it opened in 1990. UO is 10-1 on the season against top-25 teams, setting a program record for ranked wins in a season. Oregon was the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Committee's final top-16 reveal this week, and the Ducks are currently No. 2 in the NCAA RPI rankings.
Sabally Wins Pac-12 Player of the Week
Satou Sabally has been absolutely stellar during Oregon's 16-game win streak, and she ramped her play up even more last week en route to being named the final Pac-12 player of the week of the regular season. Sabally led Oregon with 27 points on Feb. 24 at No. 4 Stanford before dropping 22 and 20 points, respectively, against Washington State and Washington in the last two regular-season games of her career. Sabally - who will enter the WNBA Draft following this season - is averaging a team-best 18.6 PPG with 7.9 RPG during the 16-game win streak while recording six of her career-high seven double-doubles, including five against ranked teams. Sabally has csored at least 16 points 14 times over the last 16 games, including five 20-point performances.
Senior Day A Celebration
It was a party at midcourt in Matthew Knight Arena. After the final buzzer sounded to end Oregon's 92-56 victory Sunday over Washington, the No. 3 Ducks huddled at midcourt and danced along to "Shout!" The moment was reminiscent of the football's team's postgame celebration at the Rose Bowl earlier this year. There was much to celebrate for the Ducks on Sunday, headlined by a four-woman senior class that has redefined greatness for Oregon athletics. Once the postgame celebration was over, a ceremony was held to honor Oregon's four departing players — graduate transfer Minyon Moore, junior Satou Sabally and the top-two scorers in program history, Sabrina Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard. They'll lead the Ducks into this week's Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas as the top seed, before presumably playing one final weekend in Matthew Knight Arena for the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament."
Greatest Duo in Program History
Sabrina Ionescu (2,492) and Ruthy Hebard (2,322) now rank first and second, respectively, on the Oregon all-time scoring list after Hebard moved up to No. 2 on Feb. 21 in the Bay Area. Both Ducks have passed former record-holder Alison Lang (2,252, 1980-84), whose mark stood for 37 years. The duo is also 1-2 in career double-figure scoring games with 131 and 121, respectively. Ionescu and Hebard are two of only nine active 2,000-point scorers in the nation, and they are the only two active DI players in the 2,000-point, 1,000-rebound club.
Ionescu Caps Monumental Day With Historic Performance
Sabrina Ionescu stands alone. The superstar senior's ability to rise to the occasion was tested like never before on Feb. 24, when she delivered a beautiful speech in front of 20,000 people and a national televised audience at the celebration of life for her friends Kobe and Gianna Bryant, before making history that night in Oregon's win at No. 4 Stanford. Ionescu surpassed 1,000 career rebounds, becoming the first player in NCAA history - female or male - to reach 2,000 career points 1,000 assists and 1,000 rebounds. Ionescu did so while recording her 26th career triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, while also playing through illness. Fittingly, Ionescu reached the historic milestone on 2-24-20 - Gianna wore No. 2, Kobe wore No. 24 and Ionescu wears No. 20 - and she tied her NCAA single-season record with her eighth triple-double of the year (Kobe also wore No. 8).
The "Big Three"
The Ducks' power trio of Sabrina Ionescu, Ruthy Hebard and Satou Sabally is arguably the best "Big Three" in the nation. Hebard leads the team with 17.5 PPG and a Pac-12-leading 9.7 RPG, and Ionescu is right behind with 16.5 PPG, 8.5 RPG and an NCAA-leading 9.1 APG. Sabally's stellar play over the last 16 games has her up to 16.8 PPG and 7.2 RPG, making Oregon the only team in the nation with three regulars averaging at least 16.0 PPG. Hebard, Ionescu and Sabally rank fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Pac-12 in scoring.
