Oregon Drops Pac-12 Opener
03/06/20 | Women's Lacrosse
BOULDER, Colo. – Colorado scored four goals in the first four minutes and never looked backed, as Oregon dropped its Pac-12 opener against the No. 24 Buffs, 21-5, on Friday afternoon at Kittredge Field.
Playing its first game since Feb. 23, Colorado out-shot Oregon 40-12 and owned a 19-9 edge in draw controls to control the pace of the game. Oregon now stands at 1-5 on the season while the Buffs even their record at 2-2 with both losses coming to nationally ranked teams.
Junior goalie Alle Dunbar made nine of her 10 saves in the first half, marking her second consecutive game with double-figure stops. Freshman Hanna Hilcoff led the way on the offensive end with two goals that both came in the first half.
Oregon will look to bounce back on Sunday when it returns home to face Fresno State at noon.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Hilcoff made it six-straight games with a goal when she ended the 4-0 Colorado start. Sophomore Shonly Wallace brought the Ducks within three, 5-2, with 18:58 left in the first half when she converted on a free-position shot.
Unfortunately, that was as close as the Ducks would come as Colorado scored five of the final six goals of the first half and extended the run to 11-1 in the final frame to put the game out of reach.
NOTABLES: Hilcoff and Wallace have each scored a goal in all six games this season … The duo is tied for the team lead with 15 goals … Hilcoff has had at least two goals in five of six contests … Junior Lillian Stump has a goal in nine of her last 10 games … Sophomore Lily Shalz led Oregon in draw controls for the second-consecutive game with three and also added three ground balls … Sophomore Sydney Lawrence's first goal of the season was Oregon's final score of the game … Oregon lost the draw control battle for the first time since its season opener.
UP NEXT: Oregon will cap its weekend with a non-conference home game on Sunday against Fresno State. Draw is set for noon.
