Duarte Named International Player of the Year

EUGENE, Ore. – Chris Duarte was named the collegiate International Player of the Year by NetScouts Basketball on Tuesday.
The Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, native was joined on the all-International Team by fellow Duck Eugene Omoruyi.
One of five finalists for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, Duarte scored 23 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting performance in Oregon's NCAA Tournament second round win against Iowa on Monday. He matched a career high with seven assists against the Hawkeyes.
The five-time All-American is one of just two players nationally averaging 17.0 points and 1.8 steals per game, while shooting 50 percent from the field. He is the only major conference player with those averages.
The Ducks' leading scorer is ranked among Pac-12's top 10 in six different statistical categories and is the only player ranked among the league's top 10 in both overall field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage.
Duarte is second in the Pac-12 in steals and three-pointers (2.4 per game), fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.428) and sixth in scoring.
Previously, he was named a third team All-American by the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, College Hoops Today/Jon Rothstein and Basketball Times and was selected for the Lute Olson All-America team. He was tabbed as the A.P. Pac-12 Player of the Year.
Duarte was a first team All-International selection, while Omoruyi was named to the third team.
Omoruyi is second on the Ducks in scoring at 16.7 points per game. He is ranked among the Pac-12's top 15 in scoring, rebounding (6.0 per game) and steals (1.5 per game).
The Rexburg, Ontario, native is the only Duck to have started all 27 games this year and has scored in double figures 25 times.
Seventh-seeded Oregon will face No. 6-seed and Pac-12 rival USC Sunday at 6:45 p.m. PT in the NCAA's round of 16 (TBS) at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.
