EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon women's basketball head coach Kelly Graves made another big addition to the Ducks' roster on Tuesday with the signing of two-time NJCAA all-American Chanaya Pinto.
A 6-foot-1 forward, Pinto led Northwest Florida State College to its first-ever NJCAA women's basketball national championship as a sophomore in 2020-21 while earning NJCAA second-team all-America honors. She was a third-team NJCAA all-American as a freshman in 2019-20.
"We're thrilled about adding Chanaya to our program," said Graves. "She is a very versatile player who can shoot it, drive it, finish around the rim, get to the free throw line, and guard multiple positions. She plays with tremendous enthusiasm and has a great passion for the game, and she is a proven winner. I love her international experience, and she's shown a knack for being productive in big games."
Pinto is the third offseason addition by Graves, joining forward Taylor Hosendove and guard Ahlise Hurst.
A native of Maputo, Mozambique, Pinto averaged a team-high 14.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for the Raiders during their national championship run, scoring in double figures 19 times with 10 double-doubles. She averaged 15.5 points in Northwest Florida's four national tournament games, including a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double against Trinity Valley Community College in the title game.
In addition to being named a second-team NJCAA all-American as a sophomore, Pinto received FCSAA/Region VIII all-state and all-Panhandle Conference honors while also earning a spot on the NJCAA all-tournament team. Pinto notched five 20-point games in 2020-21, including a career-best 28-point performance vs. Gulf Coast State College and a 22-point, 14-rebound double-double against Indian River State College. She was also very productive defensively with 13 multiple-steal performances, headlined by a five-steal showing on vs. Tallahassee Community College.
Pinto made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2019-20, earning NJCAA third-team all-America, FCSAA/Region VIII all-state, and all-Panhandle Conference recognition. She averaged 13.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, scoring in double figures 25 times with five 20-point performances. Pinto grabbed double-digit rebounds 10 times – including a pair of 15-rebound games – and notched eight double-doubles. She ranked eighth in the FCSAA with 72 total steals, recording multiple steals in 22 of 31 games with a pair of five-steal outings.
