OREGON vs. RANKED TEAMS
Oregon's 73-59 win over No. 14 Arizona Thursday not only snapped a seven-game skid but marked the second top-25 win of the season (2-7), and first at home. The win was the 45th ranked victory under ninth-year head coach Kelly Graves and first home win over a top-25 squad since defeating No. 9 UConn, 72-59, last season. The Ducks' other ranked win this season was an 85-78 win over then-No. 17 Arkansas at the San Diego Invitational on Dec. 20.
The 14-point scoring margin was the largest by an unranked UO team against a ranked team since beating No. 4 Maryland 77-63 on March 25, 2017. It tied the second-largest ranked win by an unranked Duck team in the Graves era, trailing only an 88-55 win over 24th-ranked Michigan State on Nov. 22, 2016.
Three players average double-figure points against ranked teams, led by 18.4 from freshman Grace VanSlooten. VanSlooten is shooting 49.5 percent from the field against top-25 teams and has logged two 20-point efforts, including a career-high 29 against then-No. 3 Ohio State. Senior Endyia Rogers averages 16.9 points a game and Te-Hina Paopao adds 12.8 points per outing. Paopao dropped a game-high 21 against Arizona on Thursday.
PAOPAO BREAKOUT
Oregon junior Te-Hina Paopao has put together consecutive 20-point games, first scoring a season-high 22 at Washington before 21 points to help the Ducks upset No. 14 Arizona at home Thursday. It was Paopao's first consecutive 20-point efforts since scoring 20 or more in three straight a season ago (Jan. 9-17).
Her 22-point game last Sunday snapped a stretch of six straight games without cracking double-digit points, including going scoreless on Feb. 17 at Washington State. It marked her first outing this season without getting in the scoring column. The only other time Paopao was held without a point was the season opener last year, in which she left with an injury after playing three minutes.
Against the Huskies, Paopao connected on a career-best six 3-pointers (6-for-9). She followed that up with five more against the Wildcats (5-for-8) Thursday. With 11 made 3-pointers in her last two contests, Paopao equaled her total over her previous 11 outings, going 11-for-44 in that stretch.
Paopao averaged just 4.3 points a game while shooting 9-for-55 from the field (16.4 percent) and 2-for-19 from three (10.5 percent) in the six games prior to the Washington game.
