Avrit Shares First Day Lead at Bandon
03/12/23 | Men's Golf
BANDON, Ore. – Owen Avrit recorded one of just four rounds under par and was tied for the individual lead at 2-under following the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championships played on a challenging weather day on the Bandon Dunes course.
Â
Avrit shared the round one lead with Joseph Lloyd of Fresno State.
Â
As a team, the Ducks were second at 11-over following the first day of competition. Boise State led the tournament at 8-over followed by Oregon. Utah and Oregon State were tied for third at 12-over.
Â
How It Happened: Avrit, who started his round on No. 7, carded pars on 12 of his first 13 holes. The exception was a birdie on the par 4 14th hole. He birdied both par threes in his final five holes – No. 2 and No. 6. The only shot Avrit gave back on the day was a bogey on the third hole for his total of 70.
Â
The Ducks also counted a 75 from Greg Solhaug and 77s from both Nate Stember and Aiden Krafft.
Â
Solhaug had three birdies in the first round and was tied for 16th at 3-over, while Stember and Krafft were tied for 36th at 5-over.
Â
Quotable
Head Coach Casey Martin
"Bandon had some bite today. The wind was intense. We didn't handle some of the adversity all that well. The weather tomorrow could bring more adversity, so hopefully we can take what we learned today and use that."
Â
Notable: The average score per round on Sunday was nearly seven strokes over par (78.88) … Oregon is the defending champion of the tournament.
