Ducks, Avrit Win Bandon Dunes Championship
03/14/23 | Men's Golf
BANDON, Ore. – Oregon played the back nine in six strokes under par, including birdies on three of the last four holes by individual medalist Owen Avrit, to win the Bandon Dunes Championship for the second consecutive year.
The Ducks played the 6,676-yard Bandon Dunes course in 6-under 282 Wednesday to win the tournament at 5-over 581. Oregon State and Utah tied for second at 588.
Weather forced the cancelation of Tuesday's round, which cut the event to 36 holes.

How It Happened: Avrit approached his final four holes tied for the lead at 1-under. He pulled a stroke ahead with a birdie on the par three 15th hole and then surged to the finish with birdies on both No. 17 and No. 18 for a 4-under 140 total. Avrit finished two shots better than Max Charles of Boise State.
It was Avrit's second win in his last three tournaments.
"Owen has been terrific," said head coach Casey Martin. "He is so clutch, birdieing three of his final four to win."
Just before Avrit began his run, Nate Stember and Aiden Krafft helped the Ducks put some distance between themselves and the rest of the field. Stember had two birdies on his final eight holes, while Krafft birdied twice in the final six holes. Greg Solhaug led the team early in the round, playing the front nine in 2-under. Krafft shot a 70 on Tuesday, while Stember and Solhaug both had 71s.
For the tournament, Solhaug tied for 12th at 2-over 146, Krafft tied for 16th at 3-over 147 and Stember tied for 23rd at 4-over 148.

"We had a bit of a difficult start. But the guys played amazing for the final nine holes. Made a lot of clutch putts and shots."
Notable: This was Solhaug's best finish of the season. He tied for fourth at last year's Bandon Dunes Championship … Avrit now has a string of eight consecutive rounds at par or better … This was Avrit's third career win, but his first outright title. He was the co-medalist at both the 2019 Husky Classic while he was at Long Beach State, as well as the Cal Poly Invitational last fall.
